We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Potts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debbie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had the passion of helping others feel, look and perform their best in life. I started out as a personal trainer and health coach in college then I continued to learn more about the importance of coaching up the WHOLE person with more than just exercise to get their desired results. I was on a mission to help others – the best option (I choose to open and operate…) my own “all in one” fitness studio (ten years – closed in 10.1.19) and now online health fitness coaching to be that coach that I needed when I was struggling to get results.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have always loved fitness, health and nutrition since college. In college, I was the health and fitness coordinator for the residence fitness centers and quickly discovered my passion for creating programs, leading classes and organizing events to help others be happy! After working in a high end private athletic club for almost 15 years, I opened up my own boutique fitness studio to offer one of the first “all in one” studios with circuit training, yoga, Pilates, massage, run group, triathlon coaching, fat loss challenges and more. The challenge was that I was the one doing most everything as well as the back end business work. Soon after I opened up my fitness studio in 2010, many other franchise fitness studios started to emerged into my area, as did the competition and high rent. The constant stress of doing it all caught up with me in 2013, where my health became to unravel -even though I was also competing as a top age group triathlete in Ironmans as well as running marathons, 50k trail runs and marathons. This journey led me down a path to continue my education in holistic health coaching, nutritional therapy and functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner. I wrote a book to share my story and journey called “Life is Not a Race- It is a Journey” and created the program and manual – “The WHOLESTIC Method” to help others avoid going through what happened to me since 2013! I want to help other ambitious, high performing individuals be FIT and HEALTHY From the inside out- as I my story as a fit and healthy athlete on the outside changed with my chronic stress adding up from external and internal sources. The WHOLESTIC Method Coaching Program has evolved from my journey, education and experience over the past 28 years in the industry!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
La Jolla is my favorite place to run and hang out every Sunday. Solana Beach to Del Mar to Torrey Pines – running, hiking or biking with the amazing views especially at sunrise Moonlight Beach – especially for a run in the evening then sunset picnic in the summer months Bike riding from Bonsall-FallBrook-Temecula-Valley Center loop is one of my favorite rides Beach walks -Solana beach to Cardiff or to Del Mar dog beach- great entertainment! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of my mentors, Todd Durkin (FQ10) encouraged me to find my purpose and follow my passion in our TD Mastermind Group for many years. The FDN Practitioner program help me finally be able to add functional lab testing into my coaching services as I can’t help people but guessing what is going on “under the hood” and investigate their HIDDEN internal sources of CHRONIC stress. The Nutritional Therapy Practitioner program also helped me learn more about working north to south – starting with the foundations as digestion, blood sugar, essential fatty acids, mineral balance, hydration and liver detoxification, The Mindshare Summit to always encouraging following your purpose and solutions to create impact.
