Meet Davis | La Costa Mathematics

We had the good fortune of connecting with Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I used to work for a big tutoring company but I noticed that they didn’t have a close connection with their clients. I was driven to start my own tutoring company because I felt that I could provide a better experience for each student on my own with one on one programs catered to each individual student. Not all students learn math the same way. Having my own company allows me to help inspire each student to find his/her love for math.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from most tutors is my experience working as a professional musician for the last 15 years. I like to bring a unique approach to learning mathematics while making it fun for students. “I’m not a regular tutor. I’m a cool tutor.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love eating at Nectarine Grove in Leucadia. Everything is amazing and it’s all gluten free! Also, Bump Coffee is the best. I spend a lot of time at Ponto Beach and Beacons.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at UC Irvine really inspired me to continue a field in mathematics and education.
