We had the good fortune of connecting with David Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me, it was the true freedom to be whatever kind of artist/creative you want to be. I really fell in love with the idea that you can go out and create your own style, be unique.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started photography as a hobby and didn’t think much of it at first. However, i quickly began to fall in love with it and realized this was something I was passionate about. From then on, I fully committed myself to this and began taking it a bit more seriously. Little by little I began to learn more about photography and made connections along the way. One of the biggest lessons I learned, was to not compare myself to others. I know for me it was difficult starting out in photography and seeing everybody with thousands of followers and taking amazing pictures. It can be intimidating and sometimes you lose focus of your goals. But I think it’s important to remember that we all start from zero, everyone was a beginner at some point. Instead of seeing that as intimidation, I used it as motivation and inspiration. It helped me grow and truly changed my view as a photographer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely have to check out all of the LA/OC classics! Some of my favorites are Griffith park, Laguna Beach, and Santa Monica pier. One of my favorite places to get breakfast would have to be at Perch in downtown LA, with probably one of the nicer views of downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my girlfriend who’s always been by my side supporting me and motivating me to be a better creative. And also to my college professor, Fred Brashear, who taught me the fundamentals of photography and pushed us to follow our goals in life.
