We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Shea and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
When people hear that I am a healing coach for sexual abuse survivors, the first thing they say is “wow, that must be so hard working with all of those women who suffered that kind of trauma.” My reply to this is always as follows:
1. Actually, I love what I do. My clients and I have so much fun together. I support their healing by helping them transition for “survivor” to “thriver” which means we focus on the joy, beauty, and wonder of life. Of course, we unpack trauma, AND I show them how they can live a joyful and fulfilled life.
2. Also, 100% of my clients in 2023 were male. Sexual abuse and sexual violence are not gendered experiences. Men, women, and everyone else on the gender spectrum can experience sexual abuse.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’d love to, thanks for the opportunity. My name is Danielle Shea, I am a trauma informed healing coach for sexual abuse survivors and lived experience expert. I help male and female survivors walk their own unique healing journey by developing unwavering confidence, building their support system, and creating healthy boundaries. There are various things that set my business apart from others and I’d like to focus on what we talked about moments ago, about having fun.
This is my second business, and I am applying all of the lessons I learned from the mistakes I made in my first business to this one. One of those being… not taking everything so seriously.
People often say that entrepreneurship is hard, and it is, but its also so fun! I wouldn’t be a very good healing coach if I wasn’t practicing what I preach. I enjoy the journey, I dance, I play, I look for the fun, and follow the ideas/inspirations that excite me.
I want my clients to see someone who truly enjoys her life and enjoys her work. This is the example I want to be to those who see my business, partner with me, and work with me. When we live in our authentic lives, we give other people permission to do the same. The pillars and values for Danielle Shea are: Safety, Support, Community, and Philanthropy. With all of those pillars comes true authentic connection with every person who comes in contact with Danielle Shea as a brand. By focusing on those pillars and allowing ourselves to have fun while we heal, this is what allows my clients to transition from survivors to thrivers. It’s also what allows me to continue living a joyful and fulfilled life as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Luckily my best friend lives in San Diego so we get to explore so much of the area and we feel so grateful to live here. If you hang out with us, one of us will say “I can’t believe we live here” at least once.
A normal weekend itinerary for us would look like:
A morning hike at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve and then lounging at the beach.
Make our way to Encinitas for Lunch at Lotus Cafe and some sunshine and Moonlight Beach
Finish the day off with dinner at the Yellow Deli and a visit to Beads, Crystals, and More in Vista.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for my team. Building a business, just like healing, only truly happens when you allow other people to support you. The Danielle Shea Team is growing and making the impact on the world due to my staff and my support system. So huge shoutout to my mom and my best friend. Thanks for your energy, dedication, and your open hearts.
