We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Bussius and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, what do you want your legacy to be?
I’d like my professional legacy to have left our planet and mankind in a better, more positive world. I want people to remember me from my book, Marketing Built By Love and the framework that it teaches: companies can delight their customers, increase their revenues and scale their business by focusing first on love.

My hope will be that entrepreneurs and the C-Suite will recognize that focusing on building love with their customers, creating quality products and quality customer experiences builds trust and loyalty from those who purchase from them. That translates into those companies not having to race to the bottom cutting corners on quality, ingredients and outsourcing which in our modern day, has resulted in products that don’t last, pollution of our environment and companies that don’t stand behind their brands.

When businesses first focus on love, they will treat their employees better, quality products will be made, customers will have delightful experiences with those brands, and the world will adopt to this new standard. A cleaner world with happier people and companies that focus on people first will be what I hope I am remembered by and the legacy I have left behind.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Built by Love® is an award-winning marketing agency that helps entrepreneurs and brands delight their customers, simplify their sales and scale their business. We do this by using a process we developed named the Marketing RAMP® which incorporates the 5 scientific stages of human relationships and neuroscience. Developing the RAMP took me nearly 15 years and over $1M of my own money.

I am most proud of this accomplishment because the Marketing RAMP has been transforming the lives of small businesses around the world by using this approach. Too many times, entrepreneurs and business owners have struggled to see business success. The failure rate of running a small business is greater than 70% and many times it’s not because they have a product or service that people need and want to buy. Many times, it is because they don’t make enough money to keep the lights on and that is directly tied to how successful your marketing is.

Watching close to 15 years of research and testing produced this system that I now am blessed to witness help so many people accomplish their dreams of running their own business. In September of 2023, we have a book named Marketing Built By Love that will be available everywhere you purchase books from. This book will hopefully reach a much wider, global audience that would be impossible to serve with just our own agency efforts. I am blessed that what we are doing right now is transforming the lives of others and after all, that’s all that matters and the reason my company is called Built by Love.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh geez, that’s a tough question because Southern CA is absolute paradise. I love the ocean and the beach so we’d have to start off in La Jolla overlooking the ocean, hiking down to the beach, kayaking around the cove and then grabbing fresh fish tacos for lunch. Then, on the itinerary would be an old-fashioned bi-plane ride around Point Loma and by Coronado. As we land, it’s getting time for the sun to set and that would mean grabbing dinner with a nice pairing of wine at a restaurant with a spectacular view. Maybe something like the newly redesigned Mister A’s in Downtown San Diego. After dinner, we’d catch the fireworks from Sea World before calling it a night only to wake up the next day for another amazing adventure in Califronia.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No man, woman or person is an island and there have been so many people and organization that have positively shaped and elevated me to where I am today. I’ll do my best to name a few that have had the biggest impact on me, starting with my beautiful wife Melissa. She has stood by my entrepreneurial journey through the good and bad, through the long hours and, at times, working through the weekends. I’m very much appreciate of all my employees who helped build my agency, Built by Love®, to what it is today. The clients, current and past, have entrusted my team and I to serve their needs and enable me to employe more people and build a company. Last but not least, I’m also very thankful for the San Diego chapter of the Entrepreneur’s Organization who have helped me navigate the business world and blessed me with some amazing friendships.
