We had the good fortune of connecting with Apryle Dalmacio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Apryle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Music has always been who I am, so I knew since I was young that I wanted to pursue music as a career. From busking on the streets to big corporate events, I’ve learned the ins-and-outs of the live entertainment industry. Over 15 years, my experiences have helped me shape, create and brand myself as a business. I wouldn’t say that I had much of a thought process. I didn’t sit down and think to myself, “This is how I’m going to do it” and brainstorm. I pursued a passion, believed in myself, never gave up, and through trial and error it grew and blossomed.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My persistence and dedication to share my passion is what sets me apart. I’ve dedicated over 15 years of my life to playing music with 200 shows a year. I’ve played dead in the hot summer sun with sunburned skin at the end of the day, in cold freezing winters where my fingers are almost too stiff to barely play the right note on my guitar, to drunk people who don’t care that you are there while spilling beer on your expensive equipment and almost knocking your teeth out when bumping into your mic stand, and to older caucasian men who have either criticized or sexually harassed me. I’ve been through all of this, while trying to stay professional. Has this been easy? No, but I can’t see myself having any other career and feel fulfilled. I’ve had to learn to take a lot of criticism, doors slammed my face, and people telling me to take a different path, but I’ve overcome these challenges by believing in myself and telling myself that “I Can”. Through shady and untrustworthy people, I’ve learned to be independent. I’ve learned my strengths, my weaknesses and my capabilities. I just want the world to know that life isn’t perfect. Life isn’t always going to go the way society or other people make it out to be, and that’s why you have to make it your own to be truly happy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a Foodie and a fan of restoration and recycling, we would explore every food hall possible. I love the idea of old forgotten buildings being converted in to well established places where people can enjoy spending time together and small business can thrive. Food halls are popping up everywhere in So Cal, and I’ve had the chance to visit a few. The first one we would visit would be in my hometown of Riverside at Riverside Food Lab. Right in the middle of Downtown Riverside, you can enjoy drinks and a variety of food just walking distance from the Theater, Historic Mission Inn, and many other reputable small businesses. We would then hop on over to Haven City Market in Rancho Cucamonga, where I’ve had the pleasure of performing live music over the years. Live music has given me the opportunity to see some beautiful views in the Temecula Valley where people go to celebrate life with Wine. I wouldn’t say that I’m a Wino, but my tastebuds have had the pleasure of tasting some complex vinos over the years. Avensole Winery is one with not only a captivating and calming scenery, but their wines are a treat that pairs well with their view. Each winery in Temecula Wine Country is so different from each other, and are all fun to explore. For a rustic farm feel, Peltzer Winery not only has a year-round crush house to enjoy their wines, but also hosts a Pumpkin Patch and Christmas Tree Farm during the holidays.
From the Valleys to the Coast, you can’t visit California without swimming in the ocean. Each beach city has their own breweries, food halls, wineries, resorts and more. If we visited them all, my best friend would have to visit a little to a lot more than just a week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As much as they don’t support my music career, I have to give a shout out to my mom and dad. Although they don’t see being a musician as a stable and financially successful career, their life’s dedication to becoming American citizens from the Philippines and working through racial hardships gave me this opportunity to live the American dream.
