We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Braun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristina, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Some habits that helped me succeed is staying consistent and having high standards. The first salon I was ever given the chance to work at, where I learned most of my skills had the highest of standards. The owner is from London and always made sure we got what we needed to give the best facials possible. Prior to that career, I was a dental assistant working for an incredible dentist who also taught me about cleanliness, bedside manner and punctuality, which I also contributed to my success.

What should our readers know about your business?
What I think sets me apart from others in my industry is my passion to keep aging gracefully. I encourage people to take care of your skin and drink lots of water so you can avoid any unnatural factors to help you look your best. Healthy glowing skin is something we all want and can achieve if given the right information and tools. I am most excited when my clients feel confident and beautiful, because that’s what it’s all about. It’s definitely not easy staying natural, you kidding me. I look how great people look with botox and filler but I just promised myself I would just let myself age the old fashion way. I’ve learned that everyone’s skin and lifestyle is different so you need to do your skincare around your lifestyle not the other way. Life is too short, go outside just make sure you wear zinc and a hat and during the winter time, repair. Lots of facials and skincare everyday morning and night! I want the world to know that there is a place where facials meet the best upper body massage, and that’s at my spa, Total Beauty Bar in Ocean Beach.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Contrary to most estheticians, I am a surfer girl and lover of all things outside. If my best friend came to visit me in San Diego, we would first go have lunch at Blue Water Seafood in Ocean Beach with fresh seafood and Mezcal, overlooking the ocean and surf. Then would probably try to find some live music somewhere. Maybe even take a quick trip to my friend’s house in Mexico for some more beach, surf and tacos. Hike Torrey Pines, do some yoga in the mornings, find some friends and have fires at the beach at night. I think I live in the funnest beach city ever so we would go to the farmers market and just really run wild all through town. Ride the roller coaster in Belmont Park and even get a small tattoo. Eat delicious food in North Park and go to a padre game downtown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I honestly feel like my entire life brought me here. Every job I had before this, every boss I learned from and every friend I watched do it before me. I saw what I liked and didn’t like and tried to replicate a perfect situation for myself. My husband owns his own business and really has guided and supported me to success and helped me achieve my dreams through a realistic lens. So, my shoutout goes out to my adoring husband Matt Braun.
