We had the good fortune of connecting with Christineh Menaskanian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christineh, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am a mother to my 7 year old son. Currently, divorced so my time with him is very precious and all to myself. My relationship with my son is very open and honest, I allow him to always be himself and always feel comfortable telling me anything. As far as parenting, I do think letting him express himself as much as possible, be creative and use his imagination is very important. I feel like I’ve set an example for him that he can truly do anything he wants in life. I pursued music at 33 as a single mother and had to struggle and work my way through as a newcomer and someone without prior experience. I managed to fit myself in somewhere and am getting closer to my goals everyday. My son even asked me to add my songs to his playlist and he is proud of what I’ve done. Of course, he doesn’t know al the details of everything I’ve struggled through but he has seen me cry and get overwhelmed with all that I have on my plate.. and he asked me what’s wrong and I told him the honest truth, that I feel alone sometimes and that it’s hard to coordinate everything on my own, and ultimately he understands that life is not always perfect, but we are lucky to have each other. So, to sum it up I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent to impact my child is to show him what’s real, to not try to shelter him too much and be open with everything. We are truly best friends.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart is I’m very big on being real, and telling it like it is which I believe also translates in my music. I am usually very blunt and honest and have no problems telling somebody how I feel. Of course, living in LA which has a very obvious fake culture, I’m sure you can imagine being real has not gotten the best responses and hasn’t been so popular with most people. So, navigating the music industry, I’ve learned to take a step back, to pick and choose my battles, not to react quickly and choose my words wisely as well. No matter how real I want to be with my audience, I have to remember there is a game to be played both in this business and in life. What I want people to know about me and my story is that my goal in life is to live it to the fullest. To truly love what I do everyday and to do what I love everyday. I have always known the purpose of life is to be happy. Not to struggle, not to stress, not to be stuck in a rut. I choose to live this way everyday, to know that nothing but myself can hold me back and that I will do everything I set out to do. Nothing is ever perfect, but to find the beauty in everything is what I am all about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question. First of all I love to host and show people around and in LA there is so much to see and do. I am definitely a foodie so I would take my bestie to all the best places to eat for sure. I would definitely book a room at the SLS so we can have some sliders by the pool and have their breakfast in the morning. I would take her to some of the cool pop up museums and interactive experiences that are all over LA, I would definitely book a sushi dinner at a place called Seaweed in Glendale. What would a trip to SoCal be without a beach visit? I would take her to Laguna Beach (my favorite) and we would spend a night at the Surf & Sand Resort (my go to in Laguna). We can take a little road trip further south to San Diego and take a boat out on the ocean for the day. I’m sure she would want to go to Disneyland but I’ll take her to Six Flags as well and finally a Malibu Safari wine tour would be great as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is kind of a tough one, but I’ll shoutout my producer Goldmvn, because if it wasn’t for him I basically wouldn’t have any music released. Every single one of my songs that are streaming right now were produced by him and I have others that haven’t been released yet as well. He’s really good at what he does and even though he primarily produces beats for rappers, I am always so happy with the end result of my songs.
