We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Richards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what do you want people to remember about you?
As a creative, every project you create has profound significance to you as the creator. From idea creation to the final product, there are so many thoughts and factors meshed together to create your event. Our biggest thought whenever we made our event planning and decoration business was to continuously push the envelope and keep our audience, which includes our clients and haters on their toes. Our legacy will be that we are innovators who curate the stylish, luxury experiences that are forever part of your core memory.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Luxe Noire Event Planning focuses on creating luxury events that are the talk of the group chat. Our mantra is that luxury is in the details meaning we take pride in our ability to listen to our client and transforming those ideas even the small details most may overlook to create not only an eye catching decor but an event that is entertaining! What good is a beautiful setup if the event itself is boring?

We are most excited about our upcoming event with Provocative Expressions at The Holding Company on May 31st. It is an immersive comedy and dance show that uses these provocative expressions to help you understand yourself and life a little better. We will be decorating the venue for them and it’s going to be such a treat!

How did we get here? Well me and my co-founder Monique Davis met each other in dance class. We decorated and planned a surprise party for our friend and dance instructor Precious Addison which was such a success all our friends told us we should get paid to do this! So we went to Google and YouTube, figured out how to start an LLC and an event planning business and the rest is history!

Since then we have had to learn how to market our business, how to set our prices, what type of events we prefer planning and it’s been a rollercoaster ride. We’ve dealt with being underpaid or not paid at all in hopes that our business would be at the very least marketed heavily to compensate for that and then dealing with the reality of those choices. Our fear of imposter syndrome stifled us back then but now we walk into the space knowing our worth and what our business brings to the table! We only accept opportunities that see our value and we don’t settle: what’s for us will find us.

We want the world to know that Luxe Noire Event Planning started from humble beginnings but we are far from average. We have some exciting new and innovate things making their way to San Diego’s event scene so keep your eyes open and your ear to the streets so you don’t miss out! Follow us @luxenoireeventplanning

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First let’s start with the food because we love to eat and San Diego is foodie heaven!

First on our list is a visit to Louisiana Purchase where we will order the chargrilled oysters that are so savory and delightful that you have to order 2 orders at least: they are that scrumptious. Then for dinner the Seafood Baked Potato and the Short Rib and Shrimp Linguine with a Dutch Old Fashion and Fleur Dis Lis to drink!

Next on our list is Born and Raised to get that Bone-In Ribeye with the butter poached lobster accompanied by some Mac and cheese and broccolini for the sides.

Head over to east San Diego to Captain Sam’s to grab some fried snapper, catfish and oysters to take over to Windandsea beach in La Jolla and enjoy a relaxing beach day.

For drinks we love a good speakeasy so we’d make some reservations to go to Prohibition, Raised by Wolves and 52 remedies.

During the spring and summer we love to rent a yacht and have a brunch party with Triton Charters or spend the afternoon jet skiing around Coronado Bay. Balboa Theatre has comedy shows, musicals and dance performances all year around.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
From the moment we opened our mouths and shared that we were starting an event planning and decoration business, Precious Addison has been our biggest supporter. Precious also known as Thee Vulgarbabe (@theevulgarbabe on Instagram) is a fellow entrepreneur who instructs beginner to advanced heels dancing at Legacy Creative Art Studios in San Diego. We have created a surprise luxury birthday picnic, a singles Valentine’s Day brunch and a Moulin Rouge student dance showcase for her over the past year. We want to thank you Precious for not only trusting us with your events but trusting in our business! You always share our content, recommend us to future clients and let us brainstorm new ideas with you and for that we cannot thank you enough! We love you!
