We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Cardenas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This was a dream that I thought was going to stay as a dream. It started with the idea of creating a brand of swimsuits too many years ago but something happened when I was pregnant with my baby boy. I was feeling the necessity to create something to escape a little bit of what was happening with the world at that moment. It was at the start of the pandemic between that and my insomnia I decide to start designing my first pair of leggings, thinking of something comfortable for any kind of body, something that can make you feel good on your own body, having the support to do any kind of exercise and the fashion style to go out.

What should our readers know about your business?

Kai Collection is a Hawaiian name that means (Sea). I fell in love with this name because my first dream was to create swimsuits so for me it was the perfect name.

When I start creating my gym clothing line it was not easy at all. There were a lot of difficult steps, loss of money trying to find the perfect manufacturer, looking for the perfect design and fabric.

I remember receiving my first box, opening that box all excited feeling like Christmas when I was young. I was feeling so proud of my product I remember wearing it even when I was pregnant, it was the only clothes that I was using. I still only use my brand.

As I think back in 2021 when I launched my brand. I have certainly come a long way. Yet still have so much ahead to conquer and achieve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Well, San Diego is really fun, there is a lot of stuff to do but in my personal opinion. I love to go to the beach in Coronado, eat a fresh poke while I’m tanning, go paddleboarding, ride a bicycle and go for a hike are my must-to-do list.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mom and my baby.

My baby gives me the strength and all the inspiration to make my dreams come true. He is the best thing that can happen to me. He saved me in so many aspects of my life. One day he will be proud of mommy. I love you baby G.

My mom is the only person who believes in me, even when It was a crazy idea for her. She always has had my back, she is always there to celebrate my wins and to hold my hand when I failed. She is my best friend and my favorite human in this world. Thank you mom for everything that you do for me. I love you so much.
