We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Bombay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my Mama Coach business because I wanted to have the flexibility in my schedule and to be present and available for my kids. I also realized that there is such a gap in education and lack of support once families leave the hospital. You’re kind of just expected to take care of your baby and keep this tiny human alive, but you have no idea what you’re doing. I want to be able to support families feel confident in caring for their baby. As a former NICU Nurse and mother of three, I know the struggles and uncertainty that comes along with having a new baby. I want these families to feel supported and know that they don’t have to do it alone. There are professionals, like myself, that are available and want to guide them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have three young children and I know the struggles that moms face with having a new baby. Postpartum is a hard time. They say “it takes a village to raise a child” because you’re not meant to do it alone. Getting support during this difficult time will help you thrive and be able to give your best to your family. I am a former NICU nurse with 13 years of experience working with the tiniest patients, supporting and educating families on their new babies. Teaching families has always been a passion of mine and I am excited to support the moms and families in my community.

When I started this business, I did it to have the flexibility in my schedule to be present for my kids as they grow up. As I continue to do the work, I truly find joy in helping the families that need support; whether it’s breastfeeding, helping their family get the sleep they deserve or empowering families by teaching them CPR & life saving skills. When I leave a visit, I feel so fulfilled and my heart is so full. I love being able to make a difference in someone’s life, especially if it’s something that have been struggling with. I said to myself in the beginning, “if I could just change one person’s life, then it would be worth it.” I know this is my calling and something that I was meant to do. When you do something you love, it doesn’t feel like work. I have made amazing relationships along the way, and for that I will be forever grateful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places around San Diego include:
Petco Park, Seaport Village and Balboa Park
I recommend watching the sunset from any beach – Belmont Park is also really fun!
San Diego Harbor Cruise is a must for someone visiting San Diego.
There are so many great eats around San Diego it’s hard to narrow it down. You can’t beat dining with a view!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my family. Thank you to my husband for believing in me and supporting me, even through the difficult parts of starting a business. Thank you to my kids for appreciating the time I spend with them, it encourages me to work harder so that I can continue to be present with them. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through starting this business and encouraging me to keep going. Without their support, I would not be where I am today.
