We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Vickery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Hard work and diligence. There’s no substitute for either. When I started my company, there was no plan B. Not having a safety net was helpful in the success and survival of the business, because the only option was for it to succeed. That mindset was integral to staying motivated and hungry during the early months and years of my business. Our company is obviously more established now, but what motivates me these days is maintaining the reputation of our company, through great customer service.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a residential property management company servicing San Diego County and Central Contra Costa County (Bay Area). What sets us apart is the care and priority we place on customer service- responding to clients and tenants in a timely manner. I worked for another property management company for about a little over 7 years before I started my own management company. After years of gaining more experience and knowledge, I felt the time was right for me to start my own business. I got to where I am today professionally by continually striving to learn more and increase my knowledge base. When mistakes are made, how can we correct them so they don’t occur again. Slowly over the years, I’ve just continued to try to improve. This is a challenging business. It’s important to be humble enough to acknowledge that we don’t know everything, and to make it a goal to be a better property manager next month than I am this month.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take my best friend to Park 101, a great casual, outdoor dining restaurant in Carlsbad Village across the street from the beach. We’d go down to Viewpoint Brewing in Del Mar. We’d spend a lot of time at the beach, golfing, and some hiking. We’d go down to the Gaslamp district of downtown San Diego one evening. Great nightlife there. If all our kids were with us, we’d probably head over to Legoland.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Jennifer. This business would not have succeeded without her. Our first daughter was only 3 months old when I started this business. In addition to her having a full-time job away from home, and being a new mom, she also helped with the operations of the business. We didn’t have a lot of savings when I started the business, so you can imagine the pressure she was feeling. Without having her support, I wouldn’t have started the company. She always had confidence in me.
