We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Carpenter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chrissy, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
With being a creative thru and thru and taking chances not just in acting, but in launching a clothing brand, I definitely have a favorite quote as well as a favorite affirmation. My favorite quote (which is actually tattooed on me!) is “Without Bravery Our Lives Will Remain Small”, I think I read that in “Big Magic”. My favorite affirmation (which, there’s a great chance I’ll get that tattooed on me as well!) is – “Everything Is Always Working Out For Me”, by Esther Hicks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I definitely have my hand in many creative pots, but I’ve found it’s best to put ones energy into not everything under the sun, instead, focus and grind and hustle at what you really, truly want. I’m an actress first and foremost, and no, it has not been a piece of cake. It’s very easy to allow yourself to be distracted when you’re in the arts, I think it’s a way for us to make an excuse for ourselves, to rationalize why we haven’t “made it” yet. I have had my fair share of distractions, but it wasn’t until I was painfully honest with myself that I was able to jump into hyper focus mode and turn my attentions solely to acting. I’ve also been using acting as a platform to stand up for women who have been victims of sexual assault. With that being said though, because of Covid19, auditions slowed way down. I’ve always believed in not sitting around and waiting for something to happen, but making it happen! So along with writing a series, I decided to launch my clothing brand TrixiSoCal, in hopes of being more self-sustaining. Fighting for what’s right has always been important to me, and using my art and creativity to do so, seemed most organic. My clothing brand is street-wear that is definitively “Threads That Take a Stand & Make a Statement”. Each piece also has hand-crafted elements that make no two pieces the same.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would for sure take my soul sister to DTLA (Downtown LA). I love the creativity and street art in the Arts District. There are quite a few little bars operating outdoors there. I’ve also always loved a good rooftop as well, like Perch, if we wanted a little fancier of a night. We would also head to WeHo (West Hollywood). That’s one of my favorite parts of the city to totally let loose, and feel safe. WeHo is always so vibrant, it’s easy to make friends with anyone you meet there, and besides, who doesn’t like a good Drag Queen Brunch! I’m a big outdoors and fitness person as well, so we would scout out some top-notch hikes in Angeles National Forest, and after a full day of hiking and a hot shower I’d take her to Ave.26 Taco Stand; which really has become a bit of a night market on the weekends and is a great way to get some authentic street tacos. Then, for a more casual afternoon we’d meander thru Silverlake/Echo Park area. There are always some funky flea markets or unique restaurants to discover.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m lucky enough to have many people in my life that have always told me “of course you can!” when I’ve delved into a new project, or ” I know you’ve got this!” My nephews, niece, pseudo-step-daughter, immediate family and my good friend Fred Glienna (who is just like family), have always continued to cheer me on in my journey as an actress, and with launching my clothing brand – TrixiSoCal.
