We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Sweat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After 24 years of Naval service I decided Barbeque would be my exit strategy, and my way to enjoy the freedom of small business ownership.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are hand crafted and hand carved, all-natural wood smoked BBQ. Like all food industry businesses learning to navigate the COVID landscape presented new obstacles in an already volatile work force. As a small business the ability to switch on the fly is important. What I want the world to know about my company is that we are a veteran and black owned business bringing authentic Texas BBQ to San Diego.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I have friends and family visiting San Diego, we like to have events at Mission Beach and gather around the fire pits and enjoy the view. Great food, vibes and music always equal a great time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people I would like to recognize is simple, the reason I wake up in the morning is for first the two women that keep me on task and moving forward are Adrian (Wife) and Cathleen (Daughter). Being a family owned and operated business I know that I’m getting an honest opinion about our next move may it be good or bad.
