We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Liv Livingston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris Liv, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I actually didn’t start this business, I bought it January 1st 2023 after working a normal job at University Mechanical for 15 years! But I knew I would be good at owning a business because of my work ethic. I have always been a bit conservative when it comes to big hard decisions, but I went for it on this decision and it has been the best decision of my life besides the decision to ask my wife to marry me!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a long history with the construction industry. My dad owned his own general contracting company, so I worked for him after work and during the summers starting at about 11 years old. When I got out of high school I got a job at University Mechanical and also went to community college at night and got my associates degree in Autocad drafting. I was at UMEC for 15 years until December 2022. I feel that I am very well rounded in construction as I have been around it my whole life and have a lot of experience. I am most proud of passing the contractors license test with two different licenses, C-51 Structural Steel and C-60 Welding. My career path has not been easy but I made it work by not forgetting my goals and finding a way to get it done. The lessons I learned along the way are that sometimes your goals seem so far away but they do become possible if you keep chipping away at them! I would like people to know about my brand that we are a very reliable company, we always show up when we say we are going to and we overly communicate which is key in this construction industry!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the Beach since most people visiting from out of state don’t have beaches near them. I would take them to the Hills Restaurant in La Mesa since they have awesome food and beer. Then I would take them out to the mountains maybe by mount laguna, then to the Lake at El Capitan. San Diego has so many fun things to do, its the best place in the US to live!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife really pushed me to go for this and gave me the courage to go through with the decision.
