We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris ‘Jaws’ Ruzika and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris ‘Jaws’, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Signal For Pilot is more than just a band! It’s an fully creative art experience. From the live shows all the way down to the artwork for each album and song released. There is so much careful care and creative decision making to fulfill more than a listeners ear. We truly combine so many elements of our own personal imaginative minds and story telling through our words and also captivating you as a listener by the colorful inviting eye candy that makes up the SFP art. Recently we have gathered multiple artists ranging from animators in film and tv to video game designers piecing artwork together for our brand. With so much inspiration into our music; we felt there was so much leftover to give back in the form of actual artwork. The music only just holds half the story we enjoy to express to our fans. So why does SFP pursue an artistic/creative career; it’s simply just in our nature and flows through blood into our multidimensional universe of creative musical art. Its just one of those things you can’t live without. We know that deep down in our hearts
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our Art dives deep into many platforms starting with Music at its core, going all the way to the fine detail we put into every piece of cover art, concert poster, and merchandise. But it’s really our sound that sets us apart from the rest, as we don’t sound like any other bands in particular. We have all the integrals parts that drive a rock-pop radio friendly band, but it’s our unique mix of heavy, solid drumbeats combined with 80’s synths that creates our one-of-a-kind modern pop vibes. The expansive sound range of all these elements really shines bright with our next single called ‘Taking a Chance’ that is due out in late September 2022 on Spotify/Apple Music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fortunately for any friend coming out to visit us, they will be overwhelmed with some of the most beautiful landscapes and beaches that touch our coastline. From Encinitas Moonlight Beach to Coronado, you can’t go wrong with any particular beach spot the city of San Diego has to offer. Some of our favorite places are Bunker House in Oceanside for coffee and sandwiches, The Fish Shop in Encinitas for Swordfish tacos, and three staple bars of Cardiff, Encinitas and Carlsbad Village being The Kraken, Captain Kenos and Hennessy’s Tavern respectfully for evening drinks. And if your trying to get that New York Pizza fix on the West Coast, there’s no better place then Brooklyn Boyz Pizza in Oceanside, CA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As of right now, SFP would like to give INCREDIBLE THANKS to our producer Joey Bradford, guitarist of multi-platinum rock band The Used. We have been working with him on our upcoming album called ‘Next Level’ which is due out by the end of this year. We started working with Joey at his recording studio Vibeatorium in Vista, California last year. We wrote ‘Midnite Drive’ in early 2021 and brought it to him to fine tune not knowing the immense value of his skills and production expertise; that it turned into something so next level it ended up being nominated for Best Indie/Alt Rock song at the San Diego Music Awards. It also spent the entire month of October on radio waves at 91x SD Radio as the Local Break of the Month and continued its success with being considered Top 91x songs of 2021. So much love and thank you to Joey.
