Meet Chris Chase | Creator & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Chase and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe you have to be great at what you do. We thrive on doing great work, giving our clients excellent customer service and hitting our deadlines. I also think you need to have a system and process that works. By definition, process means a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. Our three step design process for creating success for our clients is simple: Listen. Plan. Execute. 1. Listen. At the beginning of a potential collaboration, it’s very important to carefully listen to the client in order to add value to the consultation, manage expectations, determine the scope of the project and set proper timelines and milestones, all of which will eventually be documented in a “creative brief.” Here are a few questions that we would typically ask in this part of the process: Who is your target audience (how will we communicate with them)? What are the client’s goals? How do you want the user to feel? What are the main calls of action? What kind of timeline is involved (are there any critical dates)? 2. Plan. Once the creative brief is created, it will be used as a general plan, to help guide and inform all principal stakeholders. During the “Plan” part of the creative process, Chase Design makes sure to properly set up the project (conveying to the client what content and assets are needed and efficiently organizing them once received), do adequate research and sufficiently brainstorm enough so that a definitive creative direction is determined before actual work is started. 3. Execute. Utilizing our attention to detail, design expertise and project management skills, we “Execute” the plan. From first round compositions of a logo design, to the launching of a new website, we take great care in our craftsmanship. Not only do we artistically use our design skills to create something beautiful, but we analytically stay organized, making sure to review and confirm applicable specifications and maintain our high standards of quality control every step of the way.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Chase Design we create and evolve brands. Whether you are starting a new business and need a logo and website to connect with your customers or are an already established company that needs to evolve to the next level – we have the talent, skill set and experience to successfully collaborate with you to take your brand to new heights. We love what we do! Our focus over the last few years ties into our mission statement. Our Mission is to create extraordinary value for our clients by connecting business strategy and creative execution. What that means is, we try to find out what the problem is we are trying to solve and then we try and create great design and content to support the outcome the business is trying to achieve. I do a whole speech on it. It’s called Brand Centric, A Left and Right Brain Discipline. All design should follow this approach.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably take them to La Jolla for some sushi, waves, diving and sunsets. It’s a magical place to spend time. I lived there for about 10 years.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to Frank Overland. He was my roommate when I started Chase Design. Frank is an amazing designer, he was also my mentor. I hired Frank as my first employee and he worked with me for 7 years. He had the biggest impact on where my business initially went. He taught me how to create better design and he also did a lot of the design for me so I could grow Chase Design. I couldn’t have done it without him.
