We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanet Mottern and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chanet, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I am a planner, I like to sit down and plan out everything and every detail. It calms me and I feel a since of accomplishment by writing every little thing down. It makes me feel organized and safe! However, nothing great comes from your comfort zone. If you don’t workout muscles that don’t ever get worked out they will stay weak. As much as I love to plan I will sit and pray and then jump with my eyes closed for what I want a plan or not plan. Even when people will say I am crazy or I should think about it more, take more time, build more clients. If my mind is made up I jump. You will never know where you could of been or become if you didn’t try. I feel a lot of people say no to taking risks due to the fear of failing and you can’t fear failing you should welcome it, as it will always be your biggest teacher and you should fear the “what if” you may live with forever! It’s okay to fail, but its very troubling to live in the “if I only did this” mindset. I love a good risk it is always a good choice no matter the outcome. I took a risk on my business. I did not have a full clientele in this area, I had some savings and a dream and that’s what mattered. I was going to make this work and put every ounce of heart and prayer into it. Here I am mid pandemic still pushing through with a business I took a risk to open almost 2 years ago; challenges and all I regret not once for doing it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do natural based facials, makeup for all occasions, permanent makeup brow tattooing and specialty brow services. When I decided to open up my own business I wanted it to be a place people came in one way and left another! I am not just talking about psychically but mentally and emotionally. I wanted to be able to provide a service that made each and every client feel the best vision of themselves. I created an atmosphere when the moment you walk in you feel safe, heard and relaxed. It took me a while to get where I am, Lots of life experiences and challenges that have made me the strong welled, motivated business owner I am today! It has been an up hill battle that is for sure; but that’s how you build strength going up hill not coasting down! I take every challenging moment as a stepping stone to something great! Lots of prayer, self development and simply just kicking my self in the butt keeps me going, not having a plan B! I have plan A and that’s that! I am a single mother of a 4 year old son and he has been the biggest motivator to date; I do everything for him! I have learned over the years it doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down it only matters how fast you get back up, success taste so much sweeter when your hard work has paid off! I am most excited about being able to grow this business into something bigger and greater to be able to reach more people. I named my company Transformation beauty studio because it embodies all the elements of change celebrating the process it takes to end up on the other side as much as it celebrates the metamorphosis. I put all my love and passion into every service, each being unique like the person receiving it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s no better morning than one started with a “best drink ever” yes that’s the name with a little caramel from better buzz and an acai bowl maybe if you want to go all out get the three seed avocado toast then head off to seaport village, it has so much character and the best view of the harbor and boats. I could walk around and go into all the small shops all day long, sit and read a book or walk the harbor from one end to the next, locals come down to play music, it’s so refreshing and relaxing. Right across in the old police headquarters is an amazing gelato shop called Paradiso, sooooooooooo good, there is no way you can leave without getting some. I enjoy hiking in the La Jolla cove area a view you can’t miss and you can get in a good sweat, end up on the beach at the end catch some sun rays and take a dip in the ocean. After a long day in the sun there is nothing better than a fish sandwich and a lavender mint lemonade from Burger lounge it is my go to fave thing to eat!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom has always been a huge motivator; she always said that whatever I set my mind to I can do. That through God all things are possible. And then when I had my son I had this immediate desire to be the greatest I’ve ever been! He was my push to finally open up my own beauty studio which had been my dream since I was 18 finishing up makeup school! I would however have to give my biggest shoutout to God as he designed me to be everything I am today. I am blessed that I found my purpose and with my faith in him all things are possible.
