We had the good fortune of connecting with Caymin Ellspermann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caymin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It all started with a big realization. Like many of us, I saw the shocking amount of plastic waste overflowing landfills and polluting our oceans. It became clear that traditional packaging just wasn’t sustainable, and that sparked a fire in me. At the age of 19 I founded Ellspo Eco, I knew I had to take action.

The problem was, existing eco-friendly options often came at a premium. It felt unfair – shouldn’t sustainable choices be accessible to everyone? That’s where the idea for Ellspo Eco emerged.

I envisioned a company that offered high-quality, custom packaging solutions that were kind to the planet, without breaking the bank. We built strong relationships with suppliers, focused on efficiency, and prioritized certified materials. This allows us to pass on those cost savings and empower individuals and businesses of any size to join the sustainability movement.

For me, Ellspo Eco isn’t just about selling packaging; it’s about creating a positive ripple effect. By providing attractive, functional eco-friendly alternatives to tradition packaging, we’re helping businesses showcase their sustainability values while reducing their environmental impact. It’s a win-win for everyone!

There’s no denying it – starting a business at 19 while juggling university studies at San Diego State University was no walk in the park! There were countless late nights, moments of self-doubt, and the learning curve felt like a mountain at times. But the burning desire to make a difference kept me going.

One of the biggest challenges was convincing people to take a chance on a young entrepreneur with a big dream. Overcoming that hurdle required resilience, a lot of hustle, and a genuine passion for what I was building. I learned that persistence is key, and that surrounding yourself with supportive friends makes all the difference.

The most rewarding part of this journey? Seeing the impact we’re making. Knowing that Ellspo Eco solutions have diverted thousands of pounds of plastic waste from landfills and oceans fuels our fire. Every custom mailer, every eco-friendly bag, is a small victory for our planet.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First Stop: Little Italy

We’ll kick things off with a delightful culinary adventure in Little Italy. This vibrant neighborhood bursts with authentic Italian restaurants and lively cafes. For a delicious and social experience, we can grab some fresh pasta or wood-fired pizza at a sidewalk cafe and people-watch the afternoon away. Little Italy’s history is fascinating – founded by Italian fishermen in the late 1800s, it’s transformed into a cultural hub that still retains its Italian heritage.

Second Stop: A Hidden Gem – Raised by Wolves

After a satisfying meal, we’d visit a hidden speakeasy! I recommend the trendy Raised by Wolves. Nestled in UTC, stepping inside is like entering a time capsule – with a unique turnstile entry, dimly lit with plush armchairs and a vintage vibe, it’s the perfect spot for expertly crafted cocktails and some laid-back conversation.

Third Stop: Explore Balboa Park

Next on the agenda is a trip to Balboa Park, a crown jewel of San Diego. This sprawling 1,200-acre park is more than just green space – it’s a cultural and artistic haven. Strolling through the Japanese friendship, visiting world-famous museums, or even catching a live performance at the historic Spreckels Organ Pavilion. We can spend hours exploring its various offerings, soaking up the beauty and learning rich San Diego history.

Fourth Stop: Escape to Coronado Island

As the day winds down, a ferry ride across the bay to Coronado Island is the perfect way to unwind. This charming island boasts pristine beaches, a relaxed atmosphere, and stunning views of the San Diego skyline. Well soak up the sun on Coronado Beach, or explore the historic Hotel del Coronado, a Victorian-era landmark steeped in elegance.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This Shoutout definitely goes to my incredible grandfather! He’s the one who instilled in me the value of hard work and dedication that’s become the bedrock of Ellspo Eco. Watching him build a successful life through sheer grit and determination left a lasting impression. He taught me that anything is achievable with focus and perseverance, which has been invaluable as I’ve navigated the challenges of starting a business.

There’s another special layer to this Shoutout – the name Ellspo itself is a tribute to our family name. It’s a way to carry his legacy forward and weave his work ethic into the very core of our company. Every time I see the Ellspo Eco logo, it’s a reminder of the values he instilled in me, and the importance of building a business that makes a positive impact on the world. This journey wouldn’t be the same without him!
