We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolyn Urquidez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolyn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My biggest factor of our success is having the heart for the community. Dedicated to families and individuals, in being that link to the next step in their journey. Also being that resource and having a commitment on providing information and options about the choices that are available. My goal has to support and direct individuals when they feel they don’t know how to get to that next step and to alleviate some of the fears and stress of living with a condition.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
KIDNEYS QUEST FOUNDATION: WHAT WE DO FOR KIDNEY PATIENTS
Kidneys Quest Foundation (KQF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping renal disease patients and their families deal with the challenges of chronic kidney disease, dialysis and kidney transplants. Founded in 2008, foundation has been dedicated to serving patients in Los Angeles County including Antelope Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale; Orange County, Ventura County, Kern County, Santa Barbara, San Diego County and surrounding areas of Southern California. KQF also provides case management in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania plus outreach and support in Atlanta, Georgia. KQF and its dedicated team of volunteers have worked closely with medical professionals to provide assistance for patients, families, and healthcare professionals. In addition to raising awareness, some of our services include:
• Education and Information including speakers’ programs, educational materials, monthly support meetings with kidney fitness exercises for patients, and a variety of consultation services on everything from health record management to renal diets to dialysis and kidney disease support services.
• Transplant List Qualification and Support, to assist patients in all stages of the process to qualify for a kidney transplant and how to move up on transplant wait lists. Preparing renal patients on how to sign-up for – and stay
active on – these lists.
• How to Be a Live Kidney Donor, helping patients, families and the general public learn more about how they can become a live donor for kidney transplants and give the gift of life to kidney patients in need of a transplant.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My Favorite place is walking, eating healthy, cooking, proffession sport games (Baseball & Boxing) and church activities.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over its 12 years of operation, KQF has achieved substantial outcomes on behalf of kidney disease patients, their families, and the healthcare professionals. It is an honor to witness that Kidneys Quest Foundation’s vision was not in vain and today there is progress, recognition and action being taken for individuals suffering with kidney disease. 2019 was a landmark year for increasing awareness of renal disease and the drive to promote kidney health as preventative when the Advancing American Kidney Health initiative was launched by Executive Order from the President of the United States. At Kidneys Quest Foundation, we continue to serve as an outreach center and are dedicated to serving the renal community.
