We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camille, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a kid growing up, we were always told to go to college, get a degree, so that you could get a good paying job and live a successful life. But no one ever told us to become an entrepreneur, build your own business and become your own boss. I wanted to create something of my own that was authentic. Something that I could nurture and allow to flourish. Since a kid, cooking has always been my passion and satisfaction.
I enjoy cooking with different herbs and seasonings, and I also enjoy creating my very own marinades for meats and seafood. My favorite meals are Italian and Mexican food, so often times I would cook tacos and pasta dishes. One day I was seeking a recipe for pasta and I could not decide whether I wanted alfredo sauce or something with a creole flavor. I came across a Cajun pasta recipe but it was too plain and simple. I decided to switch it up and make it more flavorful and satisfying with my own ingredients. The next day I took it to work and shared some with a co-worker. Before we could start eating, everyone in the office including clients, were looking in the breakroom to see where the aroma was coming from. I then began selling plates at my workplace for lunches and also doing orders on the weekends. I later was asked by a friend about creating a meal prep menu for her to began her wellness plan, and it was then I decided I would turn my passion into a career. I am a foodie and have always enjoyed food of different cultures.
What drives me to keep going and stay dedicated to my mission, is knowing that I have the lane to be creative and express my talent doing what I love to do and also bring comfort and satisfaction to others who enjoy good food as well.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What got me to where I am today is my drive and passion for the art of food. Knowing that I have a lane to be creative, express my talent through what I love (f00d) and also to bring comfort and satisfaction to others who enjoy good food as well is what drives me to finish what I started. Making the decision to become a business owner is not at all easy. There is a lot of sleepless nights, and countless sacrifices you have to be ready and willing to make in order to flourish your vision.
One thing I have learned along the way is that you have to be willing to take risks. I once was told “If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary”. And I believe this to be the most powerful statement! You won’t know what works for you or what doesn’t if you aren’t willing to step out on faith and take risks, and that’s what I did with my vision.
