We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron John and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing an outsider may not be aware of is how much work it takes to be moderately successful in the music business—I am measuring success in that you can live off of your income doing only music. People may be aware that it is hard work, but I doubt many outsiders actually know the magnitude of how difficult it truly is. One can read stories of an artist “making it” in a year or two or longer, but just know that it seems like an eternity for the artist who is putting in the work each and every day for all those years.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are a rock band located in Southern California called Nautical Front. What sets us apart is our impassioned live shows, our connection with our fans, and our band ethos. We are not a band with a singer and “his” band or his backup dancers. Each person in our group writes music for the band and has a say in all things. It was not an easy journey getting here, but what makes us who we are is our defeats and the lessons learned from them, which make the victories all the more better. The main lesson we’ve learned from our lows is to not give up. Albeit a cliche, it has proven itself to us as true. What we want the world to know is that we have something important to say, which leads to the thing we are most excited about right now—we are currently recording new material. They are our best songs yet, and we cannot wait for you to hear them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from SoCal, I would have take that person surfing every day. We’ probably hit up some great local breweries and go to some local coffeeshops—any place with live music is a bonus. It may sound boring, but that about sums it up! Good surf, good brews, and live music!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are countless people our band could thank—friends and family who love and support us in every way possible. There are also those who do not believe in us, and we thank them as well. It is their criticism that lights a fire within us to keep going. One particular group of individuals we would like to thank are the owners of Sound Connected, a local recording studio who took a chance on us. Chad Kulengosky, David Hilal, and Justin McCarthy took a chance on our band, and we are forever grateful that they have taken us in like family. They have helped us become the band we are today.
