We had the good fortune of connecting with Byron Lorenz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Byron, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In order to win at this game of life you have to take risks. Of course these risks for myself have had better results when they were calculated but that stems from experience with taking spontaneous risks that have caused unwanted set backs. I view risks as leaps of faith, comparing it to that leap off of the mountain, seeking to glide to a successful destination or stepping off of that same mountain, putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that the divine is supporting me with a solid foundational support every step of the way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Like any other artist, I live and breathe for creating… It is my lifeline. My goal is to make history with meaningful, artistic masterpieces. I have used consistency and calculated behaviors to fuel my inner-knowing of who I am as a creator to achieve my success up unto this point. The toughest part of it all, which in fact is also the biggest lesson I’ve learned, is staying disciplined when the motivation runs dry.
When these moments occur, I always remember to stay focused on the end goal and lead with my purpose, which is to inspire others with self-identifying personas that create a gateway for them to be able to discover and master themselves. Two of my most recent dezigne projects embody these exact elements. My 2021 logo-art project, S.O.U.T.H.E.A.S.T., is accompanied with an identifying acronym for individuals who grew up in the Southeastern region of San Diego to inspire community pride.
One year later, my 2022 logo-art project, CALIFORN-I-A, is the one that I’ve created for all Californians. I’ve come to notice through-out my years as a California native that we move and operate as one unit, almost like a fraternity. Especially when we’re outside of the state of California. This observation led me to create my 2016 logo-art project, West Psi’d West, where I created greek organization style apparel accompanied with a unifying creed for the entire West Coast. The project was not well-received because I failed to make the connection for people as to what it really represent. So, with its timeless relevance, it was only right for me to re-introduce my West Coast Creed by pairing it with the CALIFORN-I-A project to give Californians a presence with a little more flair, substance and significance that would triumph over any other place in the world (You can find it below in the Californ-i-a picture advertisement).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
With San Diego, CA being one of the top five tourist attraction cities in the U.S., I could give the perfect tourist experience with the knowledge I have of my city. Throughout the week, I’d introduce my visitors to some of the best food places for breakfast lunch and dinner. One of my favorite places for breakfast would be the La Mesa Bakery and Bistro. They have the best croissant sandwiches. Moving over to lunch, we’d stop at Coops BBQ one day, Surf and Soul Spot the next day for the best soul food in San Diego, and Island Spice for a tasty Jamaican cuisine. For dinner, we would have to get BBQ from Bowlegged BBQ.
I like relaxation and meditation as a daily regime in my schedule, so the Flōt Spa would be on the schedule. San Diego has great hiking trails that I’d have my guests check out. On top of all of that, there are plenty of museums to explore in our historical Balboa Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to any and everyone who I’ve learned a lesson from, which would be everyone along the way. From family members, my current relationship, childhood mentors, colleagues all the way to failed relationships, I have learned something from everyone and have been able to apply my life lessons to my success, drive and willingness to be successful in business.
