Meet Britney Solano | Lash Artist & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Solano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, how do you think about risk?
When I decided to go into the lashing industry, it was a risk I was willing to take. I was a full time student, pursing a degree in sociology to work in education and instead of going a route that might of guaranteed me security I opted out and decided to take the leap of faith and pursue something completely different. But when I think about “risk taking” I can’t help to think how it’s all centered around faith, because when you decide to take a risk you’re choosing to have faith in the decision you’re making. So 5 years ago I decided to take a leap of faith and take the risk in order to see how much I could blossom in this career path.
Taking a risk in the early stages of my career has brought many amazing things to my life and opened so many doors for me. Taking the risk to enroll myself in my first lashing course and most importantly having faith to back it up was the best decision I could have ever made.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting a business in esthetics, was the last thing I thought I would ever do. Which is why I feel inclined to share my story.
This journey was not easy at all, it took a lot of patience, perseverance and discipline. Growing up I always knew I was a creative child and always loved beauty and fashion. However, I never thought I’d be pursuing a career in beauty and owning my a successful business at the age of 25. Now I get to look back at where I was at 5 years ago and how I was just a young girl who knew she was destined for more and to create a business that would one day hopefully inspire other women no matter how old or how young they are to start a business they’re passionate about. During this journey I faced many challenges such as comparison, imposter syndrome and self doubt. But I quickly learned that all those things would be a destruction to my success and began to speak life into my business and mind. When I began to show my craft and work ethic to my clientele I noticed how truly talented I was because I began to have returning clients and although I had slow season, I learned to use those seasons for time to start developing new projects and pouring into expanding my own education.
What I am the most proud about in my journey is to see the trust and love I have developed with my clients and students. After lashing for 3 years religiously I finally decided to create my own Beginner’s Lash Training course where I get to educate and mentor women on starting their own business in lashing. Coming out with my own lash trainings has been one of my biggest milestones. When I decided to start a training course it was solely because I wanted to connect with other women and truly inspire them. I’ve been training for 2 years now and have had the pleasure to meet women who are moms, full time students or already in the esthetic’s world and would just like to add a service to their menu. The joy I receive from my students who are moms and are able to now have flexibility in their schedule and spend more time with their babies is a huge reward!! What I would want the world to know about VIVIR ESTHETICS is that it began through faith and support from a village (my family) because I wouldn’t have every been able to do alone. That I am a first generation latina business owner that has had to figure out every step of her journey through trial and error but has also had to learn to advocate for herself but most importantly that I am here to help support anyone who is interested in starting a business venture in lashing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting North County/ San Diego county, I would immediately take them to catch a sunset at the Carlsbad Cliffs. We would stop for some coffee at a local shop like Revolution Roasters or Better Buzz.
The next morning we would visit another coffee shop in Encinitas that in my opinion is the BEST coffee Philz, and walk over to the meditating garden that’s about a 5 min walk from the coffee shop. This garden has the prettiest view of the ocean and also has an incredible ambiance for relaxing and reflecting but also feeling so grateful!! They also have ponds with large coy fish and a lot of greenery!
Now, If you are wanting dinner requests, I recommend Convoy street in San Diego where they have the best ramen and dessert spots! My absolute favorite ramen place is called “Raki Raki” and is also near a ice cream shop called “Somi Somi” and has the yummiest matcha ice cream in a fish shaped waffle cone. For a more elegant dinner I recommend, Salvatore’s where they serve many yummy food options options but a must have is their “Spicy rigatoni’s Pasta”. I would then suggest a bar in Little Italy like Nolita Hall . Also walking around, its truly beautiful with all the city lights and gelato places.
And when in San Diego, La Jolla Cove is a MUST. Walking around the shore and being able to see the sea lions and people watch while catching the sunset is one of my favorite places to take friends and family.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Vivir Esthetics is all thanks to the support of my family, friends, clients.
I believe that when you’re in business you need a village, I could most definitely NOT have done this without the support of my family. I am very family oriented. an every one of my success is also theirs and I choose to include them in every win. My family has been my biggest support system the passed 5 years an as I expand I will always include them. From packing training kits, to making lash soaps and goodie bags for my clients they’re always in the midst of it all. If there is one things I have learned is that you can not run a business without the support of family or friends. I thank my clients for trusting me and confiding in me even if it’s just for 1-2hrs of their time why they’re in my lash bed. If it weren’t for my clients I would not be where I am today. All these people have played a huge instrument in my career and is what brings me joy to continue to work in esthetics.
