We had the good fortune of connecting with Bristyl Garvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bristyl, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I care deeply and genuinely about every family and every child in our program. I think parents can feel that when they meet with me and when they tour our campuses

What should our readers know about your business?
I left a school called Acton, which is well known in the world of alternative education, and decided to start my own school. I had a vision to create a place where individuality was cherished, where students learned outside of the walls of a classroom, and where children were free to express themselves through art, music, and movement. I wanted a school that felt like a family, with multi-age classrooms and a staff who genuinely cares about each child and their family. Nothing about starting a business is easy. The most difficult part about owning a business is balancing it with my role as a mother. I have six small children. No one sees that I’m assembling classroom furniture while simultaneously bouncing a baby in the carrier or responding to parent emails typing one-handed because I’m nursing a baby with my other hand. I’ve learned to be unashamed to ask for help when I need it, to be firm in my convictions while being respectful and listening to others, and to rely on my faith when faced with a task that should be impossible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the Liberty Public Market at Liberty Station! There are the most delicious foods and treats to taste from countries all over the world, and it’s all in one place!

I would also take them to Little Italy. There is this darling little restaurant called Ristorante Illando, and it has the best lasagna I’ve ever tasted. And their bruschetta is to die for. Afterward, Salt and Straw is only a block away.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Kyle. He believed in me first and has stepped up in every way to make my business possible.
