We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Bordelon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bob, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The Heritage of the Americas Museum serves the community and the world by preserving cultural and natural treasures that connect people across time and place. Through its educational programs, exhibits, and tours—reaching over 4,000 students each year—the museum inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and respect for diverse cultures. By collaborating with Indigenous communitie, it ensures accurate and respectful representation while fostering cultural understanding. The museum also supports local artists and educators, provides a welcoming space for community engagement, and promotes environmental awareness through its natural history collections. Together, these efforts help preserve our shared heritage and inspire stewardship for the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Throughout my career, what has set me apart is my deep commitment to education, cultural preservation, and community connection. I’m most proud of the work I’ve done to bridge the gap between history and the classroom—bringing Native American stories, art, and heritage to life for students and the public alike. My journey hasn’t been easy; it’s been marked by challenges, including navigating change, limited resources, and the constant push to keep learning. But perseverance, faith in my mission, and the support of dedicated colleagues helped me overcome those obstacles. I’ve learned that true leadership is rooted in service, empathy, and the courage to keep evolving. What I want the world to know is that my story—and the museum’s story—is one of passion and purpose: preserving the past to inspire the future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting San Diego for a week, I’d plan a perfect blend of culture, history, and fun. We’d begin with a visit to the Heritage of the Americas Museum to explore its remarkable collections, then wander through the lush gardens and fascinating exhibits of Balboa Park. A day in La Jolla would include kayaking through the sea caves, watching the seals bask on the rocks, and ending with dinner overlooking the Pacific. Another day would take us to Old Town for authentic Mexican food and a stroll among the historic adobe buildings, followed by a sunset walk along the sands of Coronado Beach. To finish the week, we’d head east to Campo to explore the Buffalo Soldier and railroad history sites, then close the trip with a laid-back barbecue. San Diego’s diversity, warmth, and spirit make every moment feel like an adventure waiting to happen.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shout-out to the incredible Board, staff, and volunteers of the Heritage of the Americas Museum. Your passion, dedication, and generosity bring life to every exhibit, tour, and event. You are the heart of the museum—welcoming visitors with enthusiasm, sharing knowledge that inspires curiosity, and creating meaningful experiences for students, families, and lifelong learners alike. Whether you’re guiding tours, caring for artifacts, greeting guests, or working behind the scenes, your efforts ensure the museum continues to educate, connect, and inspire our community. Thank you for keeping our mission alive every single day.
