We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Rehling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blake, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
A lot of people don’t realize how many times you have to fail before finding your footing. I think it’s hard for people to understand how, even though I enjoy what I do, it’s still work for me. I put a lot of hours into my craft and it’s not always easy, but I am lucky to do what I love every day and wouldn’t change it for anything.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My parents noticed that early on in my life that I had an interest in music. On my second birthday I was gifted my first drum kit. The first words out of my mouth were “where’s the sticks?” Since then, I never stopped playing. All throughout high school I played in bands with my friends, and I was lucky enough to attend Musicians Institute for college where I learned to perfect my craft, but I’m still constantly learning and growing.
I had to go through a lot of different genres and deal with a lot of different personalities before finding my footing. Sometimes you need to fail before you get somewhere. you may get a hundred “No’s”” before you get one “Yes.”
I’ve also learned along the way that you can score a great gig almost anywhere as long as you’re a great entertainer, stay humble, and are always prepared.
I’m currently in a band called American Mile and I’m excited to play new shows with them in the new year. I’m also excited to play Angel Stadium for a 2nd time in 2024 with some of my closest friends in Holiday State.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friends to listen to live music in downtown Huntington Beach, walk the pier, hit up the street fair, and grab dinner at Shabu On Fire. I would also take them to theme parks in the area like Knott’s Berry Farm or Disneyland. One of my favorite things to do over the summer is visit the OC Fair, so I would love to share that with friends as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my parents Bob and Janeen, and my sister Maddy. They have dealt with many years of loud drumming and have never complained once. They have always been supportive and have been to all my shows. My parents built me a music room, and that’s where I’ve been lucky enough to practice for the last 11 years. I would also like to thank my girlfriend Emma. She is always helping me load in and out of gigs, runs my social media, and she is always lifting me up when the business gets hard.
