We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca and Michael Middleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca and Michael, what do you attribute your success to?
Bereal & Milk is all about the first word which is to Be Real. We have authentic conversations about social injustices, controversial news, and current events. But with us being kids at heart we express these conversations over a meal that a lot of us enjoyed as kids and still till this day. A bowl of Cereal. We like to tackle topics that the ordinary news stations do not cover. Topics we have spoke about are Child Trafficking, Police Brutality, and Missing Persons Cases. Although the topics are heavy, it’s offset with our upbeat personality. We also play games, make jokes, and have live performances from artists. We also believe it’s important to highlight local businesses. We have had guests appear on our show to highlight their talents and speak their stories in our Shouts and Recs Segment. The success to Bereal & Milk is to Be Real and Have fun with it!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Both of us have worked our way up to getting good corporate jobs by having great customer service. Funny story is that we both use to work at the Same Subway Sandwich store in downtown San Diego and always provided good customer service although sometimes it was tough. Because of our good customer service skills we were able to branch out and work for great corporate companies. It wasn’t easy to start off with a job like subway, especially downtown because in reality you are going to come across rude, demeaning people. But With perseverance and positive attitude, we were both able to stop working fast food and was able to get jobs where we ended up taking up responsibility and handling our roles very well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are a lot of places to go to but what San Diego is known for is the Beaches so fun places are Pacific Beach and grabbing a bite to eat at Rhythms Chicken and Waffle is always a good move. We also have great locals to get food from like Chef Budda Blasian Soul Food, Hueys Chicken, The Smoker Co, Willie Wingz, Lucy Mae’s Kitchen, and Hey Sugar! There’s also fun events like Soul Sunday where Amazing Live Music is played at Quartyard SD. And you can catch Art and Poetry at events like Synergy San Diego hosted by Roann Mesina. Great places to go out and have a drink are places like Little Italy and Downtown San Diego. But if you are ever looking for drinks on the go, the best Bartender in San Diego is BadDecisions SD where they make drink pouches and customized bottles.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to shout out our Mom and Dad and brother Eder Escamilla (Eder Photo) who motivated us to start Bereal & Milk and believed that we would be a great duo to speak our minds together. And we also want to shout out our mentor Michael Cox from The Official Black Magazine for supporting us along our journey and always giving us advice on our business. We appreciate his friendship and he’s been so great to us and betting on our success which motivates us more. AND SHOUT OUT SAN DIEGO! SOUTHEAST.
