We had the good fortune of connecting with Betsy Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Betsy, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by all the creative people I work with. As an art consultant I’m part of a design team and it’s important to understand what the client’s vision is and match them with an artist that has the same intension. I respect what each artist brings to the projects we work on and the hard work to create a commissioned piece.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love that all my clients have different goals. We recently worked with Alexandria Real Estate. They specialize in leasing to the Biotech and Science and have incredibly beautiful properties. They wanted a piece in front of their award winning building and commissioned an artist that was formerly a physicist It was a great match and enjoyed working with the design team. Ana Abitia really worked hard to select the right artist and also the details to make the commission run smoothly. We work hard to listen to both the client and artist to make sure they are on the same page.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you were visiting we would see some art and probably start at the Stuart Collection at UCSD. They have an incredible collection and it’s a fun time walking thru campus. While in La Jolla we would stop at MCA and then see a few galleries. Quint One, Tascende Gallery, and RB Stevenson would be on my list. We would end at my favorite beach, Scripps where we would body surf and boogie board. Balboa Park would be a stop and would visit The Mingei, SDAI, and The Museum of Photographic Arts. Next stop Barrio Logan for great mexican food and one of my favorite galleries Bread & Salt. also in that space is the Atheneum, many artist studios, and a good vibe happening there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I appreciate all the artists and clients that have helped my projects be successful. Many of the developers I work with have been clients for many years and I appreciate their support I had art galleries and wanted a change and met Stephanie Parisi, an interior design firm in Del Mar. She had vision and a nice piece of property and from there we opened a sculpture garden. After she sold the property I opened a sculpture garden at the Four Seasons Resort Aviarra.
