We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayanna Cobb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ayanna, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The one thing about the acupuncture industry that outsiders are probably unware of is that besides pain being the number one reason a patient seeks our help acupuncture has been shown to be extremely effective in helping dermatological, neurologic, circulatory, endocrine, visceral, and every other system that operates the body, unfortunately, most insurance benefits only apply to musculoskeletal pain, nausea and insomnia.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting here wasn’t easy. I’ve overcome road blocks from financial limitations to direct opposition from others in the industry. I started with big dreams of offering community acupuncture on a pay what you can afford basis. I’ve had colleagues assert that I have a Bruce Wayne complex. Not so, I have a desire to be of service. I know I can be of service in a myriad of ways. I’ve made a transition from Community Acupuncture to Cosmetic Acupuncture Specialist, a process years in the making and it was not easy. The biggest obstacle without a doubt is overcoming financial limitations. I was able to reach out to institutions for access to capital. I revised by business plan several times. I’ve worked with a team of business advisors, setting goals and being accountable. The next biggest obstacle was finding stability at my current location in Carlsbad and negotiating a reasonable lease. Being able to brand my location and having long term stability is the catalyst for building and growing my practice. I’m growing my practice in the area I want to live. I’ve honed my skills and knowledge in Cosmetic Acupuncture and business to bring together advances in technology, TCM diagnosis, herbs, essential oils and nutrition to produce outstanding clinical results for my patients. In my clinic, I work with people of all skin types and age groups that have a variety of skin and health concerns. I find the science and technology used in treatments fascinating and fun because I get great results from blending custom cosmeceuticals into patient treatments. The treatment side of business comes very easy to me. I love it! I love working with people. I’m excited to see my clients feeling better about themselves and I love being part of their story. When we work together, looking Younger in 1 hour starts with concentration on love, happiness, compassion and supporting your health and wellness goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Showing someone the best time ever is not something I’d want to be responsible for. My best friend visiting would be visiting me, so if anything, we’d chillax at my house after my work day is done. We’d eat great home cooked food, drink a few spirits and indulge in layers of cake, not necessarily all in the same evening. We’d spend one of those days at either the farmers market in Carlsbad or Oceanside. Eating out I’d select a couple of my favorite eateries like King’s Fish House, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse or the Cheesecake factory. We’d plan one afternoon movie at the Carlsbad Regal Cinema and have an early evening meal at Sushi Kuchi in Poinsettia Village.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll dedicate this shoutout to my father. He was a my greatest supporter. He knew how to do stuff and always believed me capable of achieving whatever I set my mind to accomplish. I struggled with reading as a child, still I loved to read. My father encouraged my love of reading by driving me to the public library on the weekends where I explored anything and everything. He helped me get my first library card and the rest is history. I found authors like Charles T. Tart and explored Altered States of Consciousness. I found new and strange ways of seeing and discovered amazing levels of conciousness.
