We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Levin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my full time practice a little over a year ago and it has been extremely rewarding, exciting and challenging. My passion for treating adults with trauma came from my own experience and my healing journey. For a long time, I struggled to find treatments that would take me deep enough to get to the places that needed healing. I got to a place a few years ago in which I decided that I was going to do whatever it took to let go of the things that were holding me back from living the life I was meant to live and reaching my full potential. This led to me making several changes in my life that started with making myself the priority. Making myself the number one priority meant I had to let go of lots of belief systems, increase my self-care and take responsibility for how things were in my life from the choices I was making to how I was responding to people and events. I also started to connect more with my body through different holistic treatments and learn where I was holding my issues and feelings. Learning how to let go of things mentally and physically has changed my life and led me to living my purpose of helping others heal from childhood trauma from a holistic approach.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice focuses on healing inner child wounds by understanding the meaning we made from events as children and how that meaning is constructing the narrative of our life. I work with my clients on being able to heal the inner child so that they can let go of those limiting beliefs and create the narrative about who they truly are and the life they were meant to live.
I feel that my practice is unique in the fact that I take a holistic approach to healing and I don’t just preach it, I also live it. I have immersed myself in healing communities, so I am continuously doing my own work and learning more ways to help others, which in turn fuels my passion and reaffirms my purpose. In my practice, I implement the tools, with my clients, that I have learned from my healing journey. It is important to me to be able to confidently stand behind my treatment approach, which is why I have personally experienced and utilize the treatments that I recommend to my clients. I feel that it is important that I know what they are like and how to use them, so that I am ultimately able to understand which client would benefit most from the different approaches, as every client’s need is different. I also believe in helping other therapists learn the importance of treating the whole-body in therapy, not just the mind, which has led to my experiential training for therapists.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in an amazing city that is surrounded by beautiful scenery and all kinds of attractions. I would definitely encourage them to walk around the neighborhoods to see all the beautiful homes and waterways, take a yoga class on the bluff, get a massage on 2nd St or see some live music at the park, do some shopping at the second hand stores, get a cinnamon roll from Sweet Jills (to die for), and a donut from Knead Donuts and Tea. There are always some kind of event happening in my neighborhood too from farmers markets to festivals, so they could take advantage of those too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a tough question because there have been so many people that have provided support, love, guidance and encouragement to me during my life and on this business journey. However, there have been 2 people that have been through this business journey with me from the beginning and have helped me overcome so much. These two people are my good friends Lindsay, who is in New Jersey and Karla who is in Northern CA. The three of us have been meeting about once a week for 90 mins via zoom since April 2021, as a means of supporting and encouraging each other through building a private practice. They have helped me overcome limiting beliefs, fears, clinical guidance and staying motivated when I become overwhelmed. It has been so unbelievably helpful to have friends going through the same challenges that totally understand and support you. Jennifer, whom I just met this year, has also been an amazing support for me. She has been my biggest cheerleader and when I was putting my Whole-body Trauma Healing workshop together, she was there to help me work through challenges and celebrate successes with me. I really am truly blessed to have these people in my life and so many more.
