We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Becker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antonio, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Over time I have learned just how selfless it can be to take care of one’s self first to ensure the ability to take care of everything else. For the longest time i thought helping others meant putting everyone else’s needs before my own, but that quickly shows itself to not be sustainable. If you feel that it’s your responsibility to help others, you must have the ability to respond to their needs. Without proper care for one’s self that ability is SERIOUSLY compromised.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My opportunity to create is typically within that of the curation of events and the direction of operations within the Good Faith brand. I’m most excited personally for the positive changes that have been made during the last year, from shifting to a dry space, to shifting our engagement more to online mediums. Given the chance to innovate created a much stronger and more balanced business which I’m excited to move forward with. I believe that an important aspect of where I am today has been adaptability. You can be hardworking and naturally talented, definitely, but I think being open to all circumstance is possibly more important than either of those traits professionally. That has not been easy, and the initial stage adaptation is patience, our first reaction is typically the one we’re most used to having. I want the world to know that in order for a story to last a long time, it often has to change. The world around us is dynamic, and we have to be equally if not more dynamic to find our way in it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places in the city are typically outdoors, whether it’s the beach or one of San Diego’s trails, i tend to believe that’s where the action is at, I especially love the Cleveland National Forest. I love Balboa Park, Panama 66 has always been one of my favorite places to go when I choose to go out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s really so many shout outs that have to be made here, it’s difficult finding exactly where to begin. My endless supportive friends, family, and of course the community that has been built through Good Faith Gallery. Without the team of people who have worked tirelessly for the sake of nothing more than education and creation I don’t know exactly what I’d be doing. I am grateful beyond words that something has chosen to create a positive impact through me, and consider myself a very lucky and part of something incredible and much greater than me.
