We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Kolobova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Ukraine. Since childhood, my dream was to become a photographer, but my parents believed it wasn’t a serious profession. However, on my 15th birthday, they gave me my first DSLR camera. With it, I went to the capital when I enrolled in university to study programming. My career started when, during my final year of university, I dropped out and, together with my now-husband, bought one-way tickets to the Dominican Republic. He became a videographer to work alongside me. There, over the next two years, we filmed around a thousand weddings.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love genuine emotions. My photos and videos are always about stories. I deeply appreciate that people open up to me and my camera, sharing a piece of their lives. Whether it’s an announcement of pregnancy or an engagement, it’s primarily the story of the people. My mission as a photographer is to capture and preserve these warm and tender emotions. I believe this is my superpower. I can make people laugh and feel at ease, or quietly step back for a moment, waiting for the most authentic and genuine emotions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been living here in San Diego for just over a month, so I haven’t yet picked my favorite spots, but the first thing I would definitely show a friend are the California sunsets. After all, it’s what makes me fall in love with this place every day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am truly grateful to my parents for always believing in me and supporting even the craziest ideas. And of course, to my husband, who convinced me that work can and should bring joy, and that what I’m doing will truly lead me to success. It’s my family that motivates me to grow and never stop.
