We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasia English and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anastasia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my art account and website in 2018 while I was an art major in college. Mostly to share my work I was creating, then I got messages about purchasing and commissions. I soon used this as a side hustle to buy more art supplies. I think the key to starting your own business, is finding your passion and making that into a career. I’ve fallen in love with the hard work that it takes to develop my dream.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a mixed medium resin artist. I am inspired by nature, I love creating a calm connection to the trees and waves through my artwork. My work is inspired by places I’ve been, want to visit and dream of. Some of my work is based off a pictures, and some of my work is created on the spot. My work has textures from sandy beaches to snowy trees as well as depth of colors and details. The resin creates a mirror like reflection that draws the viewer in only to reveal more and more as they get closer.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Throughout their trip I would take them on a easy bike tour of Ocean Beach in San Diego. The best part of this tour would be “No Surf” beach, its a hidden gem that is very close to my house. I always go here as my escape and inspiration. A short hike down reveals a secluded beach where you have the space from others to let go and be at the uncrowded beach for hours. This is my go-to place for sunrise and/or sunset. On Wednesday I would have to take them to the OB farmers market. It’s such a fun experience to meet local makers, artist and foodies. A great place to try new foods, talk to local venders, listen to amazing live music and really taking in the OB lifestyle.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My support behind creating artwork is my husband who has encouraged me to go for my dream of being an artist. To have that encouragement and push has gotten me to where I am. My friends and family have supported by sharing my work and buying my artwork. My professors at Point Loma Nazarene pushed me to be better and I still take their advise into my pieces I create today.
