We had the good fortune of connecting with Anamaria Yanez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anamaria, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have been taking risks ever since I was in my mother’s womb. It all started with my mom. She was in the back of a truck crossing the border to the United States of America. Witnessing my parents take risks often, has shown me that risk taking are opportunities for growth and expansion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
About my career, I work as a substitute teacher and a yoga instructor. I am transitioning into a new career 🙂

I enjoy both of my jobs very much because I get the opportunity to connect, and get to know different students in San Diego. Through my employer as a substitute teacher, I get to travel to different schools in my own city which keeps my job fresh.
As a yoga instructor I offer one-on-one practices. I meet with my students at a local park in San Diego. I love to be in nature myself, so I decided to provide this environment to my students.

What makes my teaching job very cool besides the connections with my students, is that I am always stepping into the unknown because about 70% of the time I don’t know what grade level I will be teaching until the morning of my assignment. Stepping into the unknown has helped me to grow in many different areas of my life which I am very grateful for.

What I love about teaching yoga is the one-on-one connection with people. It provides the opportunity to create a unique experience. As a result I help people feel their best mentally, spiritually, and physically.

What sets me apart from others is my determination, my passion for life, my courage, and my patience.
Perseverance for never giving up on my dreams and for always knowing what I wanted in my life. Even when obstacles arose in life, my passion drove me to focus on the positive and to enjoy the journey. Looking back. I am thankful for the experience of raising two daughters and the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in Education.

I am proud of my strength, my courage, my determination, and my passion for life.

I am excited about embarking into a new career, excited about life, excited to inspire, excited to lead from my heart, and excited to make it to the top with patience, love and compassion.

I have to say I got to a position in my life by following my heart. I have experienced challenges for sure, but I learned to dance through the lessons that the universe was teaching me. Dancing through challenges in life for me is to go with the flow, to not resist to changes, and to accept them with grace.

The lessons that I have learned in life are: to lead from the heart, to be present, to have a peace of mind, to trust, to have faith, and to live my dreams.

What I want the world to know about me is that life taught me to live more and to worry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is a beautiful city with many different things to do, places to eat, and much more. I love enjoying nature. Most likely, I will take them for a hike to Elfin forest in Escondido. This is a beautiful place to hike. What I love about this forest is the maple trees, the creek, and the views.

Hayes Burgers will be a place on the list for sure. To me this place has the best burger. It’s full of flavor and their skinny fries are to die for. Hayes Burgers is located in Barrio Logan.

My other favorite place is Birdseye Rooftop restaurant and Bar. This rooftop provides stunning views, flavorful food, and refreshing cocktails. This location offers many different things to do like going for a walk, bar hopping, shopping, grabbing ice cream and much more.

Lastly, I would take them to Liberty Station. This place offers diverse food at the Liberty Market, an upscale movie theater called The Lot, some shops, and options to paddle board by the San Diego Bay.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, definitely recognition to both of my daughters, my parents, my boyfriend, and my family for believing in me, and encouraging me to follow my dreams. I would love to thank them for their love and support, and I am so grateful for each and one of them. They mean the world to me 🙂
