Meet Amy VanLiew | Fitness and Healthy Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy VanLiew and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The best thing I ever did to get my business and brand launched was…ask for help! This wasn’t an easy thing for me to do. At 50, I left my 26 year career as an engineering program manager to follow my passion for health. This was a huge leap for me, I had been with the same company my whole adult life, my husband worked with me all of friends were there, I agonized over the decision and burst into tears on my last day. But looking back it was the best thing I ever did. The first bit of help I got was to see a therapist because I was really grieving the losses in my life. My career had been my identity and I went from knowing what to do each day, making a great salary to no money and not knowing how in the world to make any in this new world of mine. The second “ask for help” took a lot longer to decide on. I wasn’t making much money so I couldn’t possibly spend money hiring someone to do my website, help me with my brand and strategy? With my type A personality and technical background, I knew I could do it all myself. I took courses, listened to podcasts, read every book I could. Then as I got further and further into it, ideas swam in my head and I couldn’t seem to find the best path. One day, feeling very frustrated, I put my money concerns aside and hired, Kyle Short, to help me get started. It was the most important factor into taking my local personal training and fitness business to what is now called The Be Healthy Enough Online Exercise Platform where I help women over 50 get moving and feel better with over 120 online workouts that can be done from the comfort of their own homes. I launched this site in January of 2019 and who knew that today I would be able to reach customers around the world and that working out from home would be so important! Today I meet with my business coach, Leona Martin, every week who helps pull all those great ideas I have into a plan and provides much needed support to keep me focused. The cost I spend monthly is worth every penny!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company is called Be Healthy Enough. There is no judgement here, just support and guidance to help you do all you love to do. I believe in a future where the 50+ demographic takes back control of their health, and on their terms. My goal is to help more people to live the happiest and healthiest years of their lives in their 50s, 60s and beyond by creating a community of like minded individuals dedicated to helping each other BE HEALTHY ENOUGH. Healthy enough to do all they love; travel, play with their grandchildren, or follow their passions (as I am doing). My role in this community is to do what I LOVE – share my experience and knowledge and inspire you to find what being Healthy Enough means to you. I provide exercise routines that are just right to get people MOVING so they feel better. I find ways to help them work around the aches and pains that creep in as we age. I provide realistic and sensible ways to fuel their bodies with the right things, to learn to take time to enjoy life and to help hold them accountable to being HEALTHY enough! Today I am so proud of the Be Healthy Enough Online Exercise platform that keeps growing with now over 120 workouts ranging from 5 minute exercise snacks to hour long strength to relaxing foam rolling routines. And I design, film, edit and upload new content every month based on what members are asking for! It’s been an amazing journey, filled with lots of ups and downs. No, it was not or is not easy. I am constantly fighting with technology, trying to understand people and their motivation or lack there of to exercise and how to find the best ways to help! I want to shout it out to the world that being healthy Enough is such a cool concept because it comes from a real genuine place. It’s not about getting ripped like a body builder, yes we want to look good and feel good but also be able to enjoy life. For me being healthy “enough” for me means taking responsibility toward all aspects of my health without becoming judgmental, comparative or obsessive. I want people to be grateful for their bodies and what they can do with them TODAY and believe deep down that they are doing enough. My ask is very simple; Get Moving. Feel better. Be Healthy Enough.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As soon as people can come visit us I love to play tourist. We usually get up and go for a beautiful walk in our local hiking area Daley Ranch. Then we must go downtown for lunch on the harbor and a walk around seaport village. In the evening we would head north to enjoy our local restaurants in Escondido on Grand Avenue; Burger Bench had the best burgers in town! Or sit at the piano at Bellamy’s. Their fries are to die for. The rest of the week we would kayak in Oceanside harbor or better yet drive back down town to Coronado and tour the Hotel Del, head over to Del Mar or drive up to Jullian! So much to do in San Diego!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
FIRST and foremost, my husband, Ed VanLiew that supports me every step of the way. He is my rock, sounding board, roadie, chef and the reason I wake up every day happier than I’ve ever been. Jack Canfield’s Success Principles, How to get from where you are to where you want to be. This book helped me decide what to no in the last 1/2 of my life. Dale Bach, my happiness coach, who helped me leave my HP days behind and get excited about my future. Kyle Short, my business coach, website and brand designer, video creator and all around amazing man. He pushed me harder than I was comfortable with some days but it was just what I needed Leona Martin my current business coach who has helped me grow my business by 630% this year!
