We had the good fortune of connecting with Alma-Style Swanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alma-Style, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Be yourself. Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress, and the way to live.” Gianni Versace I live on purpose, I do everything from the way I eat to the way I dress, with purpose, I have an end result in mind when I wake up I decide what I would like for that day, then I move toward it with passion and joy. I am focusing on enjoying my day, day after day. I am open, direct, and a straight talker no-frills. I like that Gianni is saying keep your power, the power to be you. You get to decide how or what to wear. I hear from my clients often the question: How should I dress for this or that? I try to encourage them to create their own individual style, I find out what they like through questions and then we come up with a solution that is their own, they own their style from then on. That is when fashion becomes style and it becomes fun and easy!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe being so international has benefited my personal and professional life in so many ways. I am British born and have lived most of my adult life in Milan Italy before moving here. I am bi-lingual and have traveled extensively, My career started in tourism, I retrained as an interior designer until I realized that I wanted to work with Personal style rather than the interior design. I then trained for my degrees in England and Italy. My vision has expanded since, now that I live here. What I do is who I am, I have already figured out from lots of focused attention throughout my years on how to get results fast for my clients. They come back to me as they know I will deliver. My business is not easy but it is extremely rewarding, it gives me joy and satisfaction to know that I can show someone how to get from where they are to where they want to go with their style. Some clients are not really interested in style, they are more career-focused and feel the need to just be a little more polished, they need me to guide them as they want to put their energy and focus on what really matters to them, it saves time, money and energy to come to me, just like they would go to any other professional. Others have had some sort of life change, could be retirement, divorce, new career, many other reasons, and now they need to figure out who they want to be next. I am excited about my next new project, on how I can work digitally. I have a lot of work to do yet though.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am still pretty new to San Diego, I am discovering little gems here and there. I, of course, love walking the beaches, my favorite is La Jolla shores, I love the long walk from the Pier to the Marine room, I would have lunch there, then go shopping at my favorite boutique Bendls Custom shirts of La Jolla, they have been serving the community for forty-plus years, with a gorgeous selection of women’s ready to wear from here and Europe and on the mens side, they offer a great selection of ready to wear too, but they also specialize in custom made shirts and bespoke suits. Next door to Bendls is Rangoni shoes made in Italy, I cannot resist that store. There are some really nice boutiques in and around Girard that are little gems, with so much on offer nowadays it is special to be able to work with the owners of these boutiques who actually care about you and what you’re buying, they give a service second to none because they want you to leave happy and satisfied, it guarantees repeat business for them, it is their passion. I would end the day with a glass of wine in one of the many nice eateries on Girard or Prospect. There are so many different neighborhoods to visit in San Diego, And I love that, I never get bored with where to visit next, Little Italy is, of course, one of my favorite places, I enjoy the new food court there, I like to get a plate of pasta and sit in the square and listen to the live music they sometimes play, whilst people watching.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many credits to give out on my story. But I will keep it short. A huge impact in my life would be the Tony Robbins organization. I have attended seminars and programs for almost two decades and they keep me on my toes as far as being the best I can be most times. Their philosophy is the secret to living is giving, to always over-deliver with your services. To live with passion. Become resourceful. And of course credit to my husband, who is always so supportive. He is my rock and love. I love to read, I spend a lot of time reading international fashion, beauty, and interior design blogs. The books I read off subject are mostly self-improvement and specialty knowledge, Atomic Habits by James Clear is the book I am enjoying at the moment.
