We had the good fortune of connecting with Alma Pedroza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alma, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For all those who do not know, Mon Amour is a small home baking business that offers a variety of desserts, made with quality products, without preservatives. You can find cookies, pecan kisses, banana muffins, brownies and their star product: homemade granola. We are currently in Tijuana, Baja California.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The first 3 years I had one job plus my business. The side job that I had it was to gain money, easy and fast for my business, so I can be able to invest with no problem. It was so difficult because at times I didn’t had chance to bake because I was 5 days in the week and my side job. For at least one year I didn’t put any effort to Mon Amour, and I started to notice and I didn’t like that, I really love my business, the interaction with the people, talk with them, hear the good comments about my products of how they love them because they haven’t seen or taste something similar. The hardest decision I had to make it was quitting my side job to pursue my dream on growing Mon Amour to a empire. My side job was taking energy away from me, my happiness, and my purpose. After I quit my purpose is to live from Mon Amour, so I can be able to push myself to be better every day in everything. In making delicious recipes, taking pictures, being more social with my followers, making more sales, etc. I want Mon Amour all over Tijuana. Position my business and a “bakery that sales delicious productos and good quality. every dollar is worth it to pay”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, visit some of the coffee places in Tijuana like Bogesca. Bogesca has a really good quality coffee and food. Then, I will take them for some ride to Ensenada, try some fish tacos and walk in the beach. Also, to Valle de Guadalupe, they have delicious wine and food. You can visit at least 3 wineries, have a good time and stay the night. During the night, you can put the bonfire and see all the stars in the sky, is beautiful.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, my best friends and Artemisa. My parents has been my #1 supporters in every part of the road; my best friends help me to get better in my recipes and people can know more about Mon Amour; and last but not least, artemisia, she is a chef and has been a super helpful person. Every time I have troubles with the recipes, we gather, she tries and help me to improve in the ingredients so the final result can be perfect.
