We had the good fortune of connecting with Allie Cohn and Whitney Sartain from Wave Social and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wave Social, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
In our industry, things change constantly, so being highly adaptable is crucial. Whether it be a social media algorithm, a new trend or feature, or simply what our clients need from us the most, our commitment to adapt as people and as an agency has been instrumental to our success. We started our agency with the mindset that the only guarantee in marketing and social media is that nothing ever stays the same, so a willingness to adapt is crucial. As a result of this thinking, we’ve never run into a problem we couldn’t solve or a challenge we couldn’t overcome. Being highly adaptive has also given us the freedom to be abundantly creative, innovative, and willing to take risks.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

We founded Wave with the belief that Pinterest should be part of the foundation of a strong digital marketing strategy. Pinterest is an incredible platform for content creators, service providers, and creatives. We knew that harnessing the power of Pinterest was not widely understood. The platform is something of an anomaly in the social media world – it functions more like a search engine.

As a visual search engine, Pinterest users have a unique mindset. They are looking for inspiration, planning ahead, or problem-solving. Pinterest content outlives content on every other social platform. We grow and nurture our client’s social community with a deep understanding and commitment to their brand integrity, leading to an audience excited to connect and engage with their brand online.

We don’t just manage social media accounts. We develop and implement a personalized and strategic approach to social media using a Pinterest First mindset. We partner with our clients to utilize Pinterest to grow brand awareness, build an online community, increase leads to their websites, and develop multi-channel content plans with proven results. We allow content creators to focus on what they love to do – create amazing content. We take care of the rest!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being a So Cal company, Wave Social is big on the Southern California lifestyle. We take full advantage of everything San Diego has to offer when we have a guest in town. Some of our favorite breakfast spots include stopping at one of Choice Juicery’s multiple locations for a green juice and protein brownie, followed by waiting in line at some of our most iconic brunch spots, Breakfast Republic, Morning Glory, or Cody’s La Jolla. Afterward, of course, spend the day along our stunning coastline at Coronado Beach if we’re feeling touristy or at Beacons if we want the local experience. Lastly ending with a delicious dinner in one of the best neighborhoods in the city for nightlife, Little Italy. We love Little Italy for its variety of restaurants and dessert options. It’s also perfect for an after-dinner stroll.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are plenty of individual people and experiences we could dedicate our Shoutout to, but honestly, we think it’s important to recognize each other. We had both been helping creators on Pinterest separately for some time, but it wasn’t until we joined forces to co-found Wave that we really saw our success take off. The best part is that we each have unique strengths that simply make everything we do that much better. One of us is exceptionally creative and the other is great with numbers and strategy. For example, one of us is an amazing copywriter, while the other is the world’s best editor. Working this way, both of us getting to play to our strengths while working towards the common goal of producing incredible content and social media strategy for our clients, has made both of us better business owners. We also have a lot more fun together! We really would not be where we are today if we hadn’t been each other’s biggest cheerleaders.
