We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Mowry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have ALWAYS loved photography. I was also a military spouse for 20 years. Moving every 2-3 years was challenging with a traditional career. When my children were very little, I began to learn the technical side of photography. As I progressed and took more and more photos I realized it was a business I could do that I loved. It also transitioned easily as my husband’s career required so many moves. Twelve years later, it is the best decision I made!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is rooted in connection, presence, and storytelling. I’m drawn to both the quiet in-between moments and the meaningful milestones — the subtle expressions, gestures, and emotions that reveal something real. Whether I’m photographing families, military moments, or small business owners, my goal is always to create images that feel authentic, natural, and emotionally lasting.

What sets my work apart is that I make every photoshoot fun and easy. I want each shoot to feel like a positive, effortless experience rather than a challenge. I am often told, “wow, that was the easiest photoshoot of my life!”

I take time to understand the people in front of my lens and what this moment means in the larger story of their lives. That intention shows in the images — they’re grounded, unforced, and full of life. I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the long-term relationships I’ve built over the years.

My professional journey has been anything but linear. I’ve spent over a decade refining my craft while navigating motherhood, business ownership, and significant personal transitions that required resilience and reinvention. It wasn’t easy, but those challenges taught me to trust my instincts, set boundaries, and build a business aligned with my values.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s built on authenticity and heart. I believe photographs matter — they preserve not just how life looked, but how it felt. My work is for those who value depth over trends, and connection over perfection, and who want their stories documented with intention and care.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, I love this question! I LOVE San Diego and I am often out and about exploring all the best places.
In no particular order:
– stand-up paddle boarding in the bay or harbor
– a walk along the boardwalk in Mission Beach with a food stop at Baja Beach Cafe
– Dinner out in Little Italy – favorites include: Herb & Wood, Born & Raised, Vincenzo, and Lala.
– Drinks after dinner at Nolita Hall
– a picnic sunset at Sunset Cliffs
– Jet skis or a sail boat tour around San Diego Bay – both so fun!
– A Padre’s game of course!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, a huge shout out to the other photographers I have met along the way. Community over competition is something I believe in strongly, and throughout the years I have had many mentors and partners show me the way, whether is it something technical, something on the business side, or creative collaboration. That community aspect is something I value and try to provide to new photographers now.
