Meet Alicia Perry | Bar Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I suppose I find there to be an association between risk and opportunity. It’s all about how you look at the situation or option. Riskier choices push us our of our comfort zone, or feel to be irrational at times, hence we aim to evade them. I found that taking risks in my career has allowed me to go down paths that I would not have traditionally ventured. In turn it has enabled me to become more self aware, and develop a better understanding of where I see myself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I enjoy building teams, and healthy & respectful working cultures within the hospitality world. I would hope that I am known for fostering quality working environments and cultures by means of support, advocacy, and accountability. My team provides me with great purpose, and I ultimately want to ensure that I establish a positive space that allows them to develop and further their career.
In regards to my current profession, I am the General Manager of 2 spaces; a bar and restaurant in San Diego, CA. The process has and continues to be challenging at times. I think it is extremely important to be self aware of your capabilities and limitations. I feel that by staying connected with both, it has allowed me to be successful in my role. In addition, I work to be an effective leader within the spaces. As mentioned, I genuinely care about the well-being of my staff and aim to establish work spaces that foster growth and development.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up in San Diego I am naturally attracted to the various coastal areas that we have to offer. I suppose I would be interested in taking them on a trip up the coast and visiting different bars and restaurants along the way. Some of my favorites include
The Joint – OCEAN BEACH
Lucy’s – OCEAN BEACH
3rd Corner – OCEAN BEACH
Miss B’s Coconut Club – MISSION BEACH
Oscar’s Mexican Seafood – PACIFIC BEACH
Wayfarer Bread – LA JOLLA
Piatti’s – LA JOLLA
Cicciottis – CARDIFF BY THE SEA
Waverly – ENCINITAS
Juanita’s Taco Shop – ENCINITAS
Campfire – CARLSBAD
Jeune Et Jolie – CARLSBAD
Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub – OCEANSIDE
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I genuinely feel the current company that I work for has provided me with the space and platform to learn and develop without restraint. In addition my partner, Frank, who was also my predecessor, inspired me to become more involved in the hospitality industry with a focus on cocktails and bar spaces. He has always been extremely supportive and continuously challenges me to strengthen my skillset and further develop my spirit/cocktail knowledge base.
