Meet Aleyna Jones | Freelance Writer + Business Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleyna Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleyna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2012, I thought to myself: how on earth am I going to find a solid career in the middle of another recession? That’s when I overheard another student say, “The only way to get a job these days is to create one yourself.” Instantly, I got the insane idea to start my freelance writing company straight out of college. Since then, I’ve written hundreds of blogs, scripts – and even a full-fledged novel – for creative and technical clients. With over 10 years of experience working with companies like Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and Marriott, I couldn’t imagine my life any other way.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
On top of having over a decade of work under my belt, one of the things that set my freelance writing firm apart is my creative spirit. I’m often told I’m able to create something from nothing by my clients, and I take great pride in that. By allowing my customer’s needs to guide my craft, I can create something that is a great fit for everyone. That’s why my business motto is simple: to make your life easier one sentence at a time. Besides this, I run a Black-owned, woman-owned brand. So, I’m qualified to work with underserved communities, especially when it comes to my new business consulting offering!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank one of the first internship writing opportunities I’ve ever received for getting this far. As soon as I received my Modern Lit degree over a decade ago, I earned a virtual internship position at Washington-D.C.-based art and media magazine. From that early experience, I was able to interview and interact with female artists from around the world. My mentor even for me out to the East Coast to attend my first official fundraising event. For that, I will be forever grateful!
