We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Tomayko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have had multiple business’s and not all of them successful. My newest venture actually started from my own need, I was looking to solve my own problem that is current in the Hospitality (Planning Primarily) industry. After it started to evolve and I would talk to others I confirmed it was a good idea and then invested more time in developing it fully. Now we are one month away from launch I couldn’t have been happier but also couldn’t have ever imagined I would be launching a Tech App for the industry.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder of Little Black Book Series we are a Marketplace app that helps Group Event Planners find suitable venues for their groups of any size and nature. The one thing that sets us apart is one of our core values is Sustainability in everything we do, we rank the venues based on their sustainability practices and policies. This has always been important but I feel like now more than every we need this. As Event planners it is up to us to ask those hard questions and make decisions based on the answers we see. Our decisions have a larger impact because we are deciding for a large group of individuals. I am super excited about our launch and bringing it to life it has taken some time to get here and been a learning curve moving from 15 years in the Hospitality field to now Tech. Through out my whole life I have always had a mentor in one way or another I have either sought them out or they see something in me and feed it, that has been my one hack, ALWAYS find someone that believes in you and your potential! Yes you need to be self-sufficient and be able to have the confidence in yourself and what you are doing but on those bad days (there will be plenty) it’s life changing to have someone speak confidence into you and see you for who you are and your potential and not the outcome of that failed venture or not met KPI’s. Getting to where I am has not been easy many times because I have taken the hard route just to see what happens, it has made me a better entrepreneur but if you can take the easy route do it. I have had so many lessons along the way its hard to list just one and I know more will come I think the one thing that is important is knowing yourself first and your unshakeable core values. Once you have these no money or manipulation can sway you and that show integrity and it might delay progress or revenue but at the end of the day what matters to you and that you take a stand for it is the most important thing. My brand is all about sustainability about looking to the future and leaving an amazing planet for us to grow old with not just future generations. I am hoping through this company we can start to reflect back the importance of sustainability in all that we do and motivate more people and larger companies to take more action towards this.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow it would all be food related I am such a foodie it truly brings me joy! I am not much of a partier so Gas Lamp is not really enjoyable for me. Outdoors I love Julian (I know its not San Diego but my bestie is in town) as well as Anza Borrego are by far worth it, I have rented a truck to just drive out and spend the day hiking around the mud caves and when its spring you get the flowers its truly a wonderful experience. The Carlsbad Tulip fields are great too. For food I love the Liberty Station market it reminds me a bit of those European markets with the different stalls and if you go with a group everyone can find something they like. Speakeasy’s there are two that are high up on my list and very different: Raised By Wolves in La Jolla Grass Skirt in Pacific Beach Right in PB after some people watching you can roll over to Oscar’s for some of the best Ceviche ever! There is also Barrel Republic in PB and Carlsbad I love this place (PB one is my fav!) They have different craft beer on tap which is very representative of SD, they have board games and you can order food in from anywhere that delivers (PB one only) its super laid back and really fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow so many! My parents of course because of the support, I have many friends that have helped my in my journey mentors and such. More recently the Becker- Hill family that took me in when I was having the most troubles and fed me and supported me in my endeavors that I will never forget. There are others in my life who know who they are and have always supported my crazy ideas, be it from a ramble session or putting in work or just reminding me of my purpose and why I am doing what i am doing. To all of you thank you so much!!
