Meet Alex McGinness | Founder & Lead Designer of Arcoíris Design Studio

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex McGinness and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what is the most important factor behind your success?
For me, the most important factor behind my success has been brand consistency. Every single touchpoint, whether it’s an in-person event, my Instagram feed, my website, or even my client onboarding process, is intentionally branded and aligned with my values, voice, and visuals.
This consistency creates a sense of trust and professionalism. People take me seriously because they can feel the thoughtfulness and clarity behind everything I put out. It also helps me stand out in a crowded design space. When potential clients interact with my brand, they instantly get a sense of who I am and what I stand for, and if that resonates, they know they’ve found their person.
Ultimately, that embodied consistency not only attracts the right people to my business but also gives them the confidence that I can create the same aligned and resonant brand experience for their business too.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider my design practice an art practice, one that’s deeply intuitive, spiritual, and rooted in authenticity. Whether I’m designing a logo, building a website, or guiding a brand strategy session, I’m channeling the same creative spark I’d use to make art. It’s not just aesthetics, it’s energy. It’s alignment. It’s connection.
Design for me is a spiritual practice as much as it is a professional one. I cultivate it through mindfulness, EFT tapping, yoga, and deep listening. That inner work helps me show up fully for my clients and create brands that feel like true reflections of their essence.
I actually started designing on MySpace back in middle school (shoutout to anyone who remembers that wonderful time in the early internet!). But my path wasn’t linear. I studied biology and worked in science before rediscovering my creativity after yoga teacher training. That mix of strategy and intuition is what defines my work today.
Web design became the sweet spot between the structured, left-brained world I came from and the expressive, right-brained artistry I craved. I love solving big-picture brand puzzles, bringing systems and soul together so my clients feel seen, supported, and empowered.
It definitely wasn’t always easy. As someone with depression and anxiety, I’ve had to build a business that works with my energy, not against it. I’ve learned the power of slowing down, focusing on what truly matters, and trusting that I don’t have to fit into a traditional mold to be successful.
What I want the world to know is this: your brand isn’t just how you look online. It’s how people feel when they interact with you. At Arcoíris Design Studio, we create brands that are vibrant, strategic, intuitive, and grounded, just like the multifaceted people behind them. I’m here to help creative entrepreneurs and spiritually curious business owners build brands that reflect their hard work and values so they can grow with confidence and clarity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I’d plan a week of pure magic, equal parts relaxation, inspiration, and vibey local flavor. Here’s what our dream San Diego itinerary would look like:
We’d have to visit The Lafayette Hotel because not only is it iconic, but it’s also so beautifully designed. I’m obsessed with the décor; it gives total Dorothy Draper energy with bold colors and eclectic patterns. It’s a whole vibe, and absolutely worth visiting.
One morning, I’d take them to a hot yoga class at Asteya in Encinitas, specifically Josh Blatter’s class, which is an absolute treat. It’s my favorite studio. The energy there is grounded, uplifting, and beautifully intentional.
Afterward, we’d spend the day wandering around Leucadia, exploring local gems like Thread Spun and Child of Wild. I love supporting these women-owned shops with such beautiful, curated selections. We’d grab a nourishing and delicious meal at Nectarine Grove (GF + DF friendly and sooo good).
On another day we’d have a full beach day in Carlsbad. In my opinion, their beaches are the best in North County. We’d start with a long beach walk along the 101—from the Village to Cannon—just soaking up the ocean air, getting some steps in and enjoying each other’s company. Then we’d explore Carlsbad Village, popping into local boutiques, sipping iced coffees, and enjoying that small-town coastal charm.
During the trip we would treat ourselves to dinner at Puesto in La Jolla. Their Mexican food is next-level, fresh, flavorful, and totally unforgettable. An absolutely must-try when in San Diego.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who’ve walked alongside me on this journey, but I absolutely have to shout out my incredible coach, Lauren Paige. (She’s a San Diego local too!) She’s been such an anchor in my business and personal growth, helping me stay focused, accountable, and aligned with my bigger vision.
As someone with ADHD and a million creative ideas at once, it’s easy for me to start too many projects without finishing the ones that truly move the needle. Lauren has this magical ability to lovingly call me forward, helping me prioritize what actually matters while still honoring my creativity.
She’s also played a pivotal role in helping me strengthen my IRL networking strategy over the last year, something that’s felt both empowering and expansive. I’m so grateful to have her as part of my support team. Her mentorship has truly been a game changer.
