We had the good fortune of connecting with Alana Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alana, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Something I have been holding close to me is “walking in every room like God sent you”, because he did. I am constantly finding myself in uncomfortable spots because every level is different and self progression is forever. It doesn’t get easier but I know am meant to be exactly where I am. So I try not to question anything and remember who sent me here and why.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For the most part, I am a music artist and a creative. For the last year, I have been working behind the scenes on my solo project and also doing vocals for s collaborative project, Topeka Clementine. It hasn’t been the easiest ride trying to put projects together and make time but it has been worth it. I have learned that it is easier together than it is alone. Of course, both have their different set of struggles but I would much rather push through it with my people than by myself. I just hope I can continue to make real music with the people I love and inspire people to do the same. Pursue your passion and work with people you love to create something bigger than yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone were visiting North County San Diego, first I would make them cruise the strand in Oceanside, if not walk the pier. There are so many good places to get drinks and food in town but the top three they’d have to visit on my list are Q&A for their espresso martini and literally any food on the menu, Naegi’s for their Japanese fried chicken sandwich, and Felix’s for their soul food. Besides the food.
Honestly, I think just going to the beach and experiencing life down there is what is the most fun and interesting. You will see the realest stuff there. You can experience life pre-gentrification and for what it is now. It might not be the most fun thing to think about but it is the most interesting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to Sunny Street Outreach in Oceanside, CA, a mutual aid ran by Sunny Soto. Sunny has been a light in my life and in our hometown. They serve our community through amazing food and great hospitality. Oceanside wouldn’t be what it is without Sunny.
