We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha Mahler Salinas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aisha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Love, teamwork, authenticity and laughter are our secret sauce! As a salon we are fueled by joy, happiness, and good vibes and won’t settle for anything less! We believe that when you serve others at your highest level, you must serve from a place of love, humility, and joy!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I opened The Color Collective in October of 2019 after nearly nine years in the industry. I spent those nine years learning, researching, getting educated, getting specialized, and most of all observing. I observed the climate of our industry, observed the behaviors of those around me and the feeling of wanting something more well rounded while maintaining my independence as an artist and business woman always stuck with me. Those nine years weren’t easy or smooth by any means, but every single moment made The Color Collective what it is. The Color Collective Salon was created to provide a space to grow, laugh, and thrive as individuals and together as a community. We are dedicated to a collaborative culture of excellence and authenticity. Even though each of our stylists are independent, we are all an integral part of a team and we always strive to be helpful and encouraging to each other and every guest who walks through our doors. It is really important to myself and my team to create a space that uplifts the community and our industry without competition or ego. We dream big and love even bigger, and this plus a lot of laughter and some talented artists is where our magic is.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well San Diego is full of little gems! I think I would aim to take my friend to Better Buzz in Hillcrest, Lestats in Normal Heights, and Communal Coffee in North Park…because coffee is the most important meal of the day. I would definitely do a quiet beach day at Silver Strand, and of course hit up the Zoo. I think spending a day in Hillcrest visiting all of our favorite bars and eateries is a must also!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our success as a salon would not be possible without the hard work of our stylist and loyalty of our guests. We call our community our “TCCS Family” because that is exactly what we are. Without the support, love, encouragement, and loyalty of our guests we would still just be a dream!
