We had the good fortune of connecting with Aidan Carroll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aidan, what do you want people to remember about you?
When I think about legacy I think about love. I think about passion. I want to be remembered for the love, energy, and passion I put into my music as an artist, and the music I’ve helped others to create as a producer. At the end of the day, we all want to have that feeling of trust around the people we work with and spend our lives with, so I always want to be that safe place for people when we collaborate. I want to be remembered as dependable, and always in service of the art before anything else.

I’m also the type of person who believes anything is possible. Freedom and limitless expression is very important to everything I do, so in that respect, I also want to be remembered for the variety of music and art I’ve brought to the world. I want to blow the doors wide open on what is possible in music. I try to bring a purity of soul to every situation so that the art can transcend time, thereby creating something that lasts forever. This is how I want my legacy to be remembered.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m excited about my new song “Force Field”!

The song represents this idea of walls we create to keep us safe and keep us from falling, but which ultimately keep us hidden. It’s been a long road to get to this point of writing about something that’s very real, and choosing to be fully comfortable in my skin. Having the ability to move freely between being an artist, a producer, and former touring musician hasn’t always been easy. Though it may sound like a dream to others, I’m only just now starting to find ways to truly fuse these musical worlds into something more cohesive. In a world/society/culture where independence is heralded, I’ve found that building relationships, community, and collaboration is what helps us overcome hurdles/challenges. This has become central to my process

I often tell people I’m in the third or fourth “era” of my career. And you know what? That’s okay. I didn’t decide I wanted to be a producer until later in the game, and while there have been many times when I wished I’d started earlier, I don’t regret my path. All those years of being a working musician in bands and on the road allowed me to learn and perfect my craft at a deeper level. Though now I’m much more embedded in the music “industry”, I still approach it from a very organic place, just how I would approach playing bass in a band and that’s what sets me apart. It hasn’t been easy, but staying true to my path and instincts has continually guided me throughout my career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being in Los Angeles, probably the first place I would take a friend is Father’s Office for burgers and drinks, or Sonoratown for tacos (or Leo’s taco truck!). If this was their very first time in LA I would take them on a drive up the PCH for some beautiful views and maybe stop at Broad St Oyster Co. for lobster rolls to cap the night off. I love the beach and ocean here so there would definitely be a dedicated beach day and/or hike in the Santa Monica Mountains. Coffee at Hilltop or Manána. Favorite museum stop offs would be the Getty, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, or LACMA. For music I’d hit ETA, Lodge Room, or wherever my friends are DJing. Record shopping at High Fidelity. There’s so much to do here so that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my family, my wife, and my mentors! Without these people I would not be where I am today. Shoutout to my Mom, Dad (r.i.p.), my brother, my wife Iman, and my mentors Lee Rucker & John Patitucci.

I also want to show love to some of my frequent collaborators and friends here in LA: Rush Davis, Reggie Becton, Niia, Jesse Singer, Dante Jones, Paris Price, and Jeff Jackson.
