We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Penhos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, what’s been your favorite thing to do during quarantine?
It’s funny how life always has a way of recreating and sometimes changing our plans. During this quarantine, I had planned on creating online courses for my Empowerment and Diversity Coaching while I continued to teach my amazing college students. However on the evening of March 16th, something magical happened 5 weeks ago in the midst of all the stress, worry, and uncertainty. We (Hugs & Bags, A Love Movement, NPO) began delivering meals to Seniors, Students at risk and un-sheltered, people with disabilities, folks impacted by COVID 19 and anyone else in need. We serve 700 meals daily and have helped over 6,000 people. The reason I share these numbers is to prove the power behind people, most importantly COMMUNITY. This has been possible due to the help of Male Lupus Warriors, an Advocacy, Education and Support entity, World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization that helps with meals, MLCSD, Muslim Leadership Council of San Diego, Craft Meals SD, and countless volunteers who have stepped up to help us by preparing, delivering, connecting and gathering donations. I thought being home would have been a nice break to unwind, slow down and reconnect, but being on the front lines serving, helping and decreasing food and toiletry insecurity in San Diego has brought me one of the greatest joys. Seeing the smiles on the children’s and elders faces is priceless. I am grateful to be a part of such an Amazing, Loving and Giving team.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
On a mission to help people reconnect to their Best Self! Empowerment and Mindfulness Coach and Diversity Trainer. I am passionate about helping people create their dream life, one step at a time. Focusing on Mental, Physical and Emotional health.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to Shoutout every single person who loves and believes in the mission and vision. First and foremost my Mother, I have witnessed the most selfless acts and giving ways my whole life. Instilling in me to give, to share, to help even during our lowest or times when we feel we may not have enough. To this day, she volunteers, gives and loves every person she meets. Next is my partner, Emmitt Henderson III. He has been my number one supporter and most encouraging. Giving a person Encouragement during the wins is one thing but encouraging someone when they feel their lowest has one of the most powerful effects. I am blessed to have a group of loving, empowering, positive women who believe in the power of prayer, positive thinking and mindfulness. I wouldn’t be finished if I didn’t share books that have made a difference in my life. I can write a book on the number of books but for the sake of this article I will share 3: The 4 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, The Seven Spiritual Laws for Success by Deepak Chopra and last but but least my go to for every aspect of my life, A Course in Miracles by Helen Schucman.
