24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week. Junior investment bankers regularly work 80-90 hours a week. Many other high profile professions require the same level of commitment. Often those on the outside claim that working 80-90 hours a week is bad/wrong/terrible/silly/etc but we’ve spoken with so many folks who say working that much has been the best decision of their life – it allowed them to develop a deep and strong skill set far faster than would have been possible otherwise. In other words, by working 2x the hours, they were able to generate 5x or more the rewards. And depending on where you are in your career, investing heavily in your skills and competence can pay dividends for a long time.

Work life balance is an interesting thing because so often it feels off balance. You put more energy and focus in one area and the other area falls a bit. I strive to implement systems to make the “balance” feel less stressful while also giving myself grace when all the things just are not going to happen. I really think as a woman and mother the thing that has helped me the most is living in tune with my cycle and knowing when to push and when to chill. This helps me to feel more balanced within and helps me to know that there is a time for everything. My life is drastically different now from when I started out in the business. I am now a husband and father of an eight year old daughter and they are my whole world. My time with them is very important to me so having a good work life balance has been my biggest priority. It’s a very interesting thing when you’re a creator and then have a family because your passions and dreams you had before don’t go away necessarily, but there are new dreams and goals you want to have now with your family.
