One of the most rewarding things about getting to know so many entrepreneurs is seeing first-hand how many of them are focused on so much more than just financial results. This is an important transition that I have made since leaving the corporate world in 2013. I have since focussed on working for and with value creating start-ups whilst attempting to create my own – it took me several attempts before finding one that worked. I have been running a company over the past five years that addresses the knowledge gap challenge for decision makers in Africa. We all live by story. These stories shape our worldviews and they undergird our relationships. They also give us the framework for how we see ourselves. Even though we all live by these stories, most of us do not take the time to think about what those stories are or how they came to be unless a crisis occurs. This is where I come in. By incorporating empathetic listening and mindfulness practices in a safe environment, I help people sift through their stories so they can better understand themselves, their relationships, and the world they live. Wood & Vine has been called “An Oasis on the Boulevard” since we opened in 2011. We are thrilled that over the years, we have also become a neighborhood gathering place. Residents, business leaders, community leaders, the staffs of businesses all over Hollywood and the casts of the shows at the Pantages all gather at our bar and on our patio to relax, reset, or talk about the issues facing our community. OUTSIDE THE BOX originally began in early 2020 to help people impacted economically by the pandemic, especially those who lost jobs and internships. The series began with conversations featuring industry experts, authors and entrepreneurs providing advice and insight into how to pivot and navigate the job market, as well as become an entrepreneur.
